Title: Seahawks Game
Post by: Reidme on November 23, 2005, 09:07:56 AM
I was at the Dallas game, and wondered around trying to find the CF tailgate, to no avail. I also have tix to the Seahawks MNF game, and am looking forward to seeing all my favorite Buddy Era Eagles. So feel free to discuss tailgating here, but my question regards the pregame festivities.

If this team is below 500, and hurting, is there a difference in the response Buddy Ryan will receive from the crowd? Is this the first time he's been introduced at an Eagles game since 1990- 91?

I think Buddy gets a big cheer not matter what.

Buddy is a living legend to the sheep. No payoff victories? Who cares?! He took rivalries personally and that all Philly remembers.

I can't wait for this game.

1) I'll be there
2) Get to see all the 'old-timers' from way back
3) The crowd is going to be great
4) I hope to steal another Trojenator from whoever I stole one from last year    :paranoid

I'll be there.  My flight gets into Philly airport around 12:30 on Monday afternoon and after a quick lunch at Tony Luke's, I'll be heading down to the Wach Lot for the festivities.

I expect to see each and every one of you there.

PS: I'm wearing one of my old skool jerseys but I haven't decided which yet.  The choices are:

Randall #12 in White

Jerome #99 in White (Mitchell & Ness, though - the original stays in the frame)

Seth Joyner # 59 in Green

Can't decide which just yet...

I found an autographed Reggie White jersey on Ebay.  The guy is asking $650 for it and apparently has a COA plus a photo of Reggie signing the jersey he's selling.

He also has a "submit best offer" link on the listing but I doubt he'd accept $99.95, so I decided not to bid on it.

Tailgating at the Wach was pretty good yesterday, fairly warm for post-Thanksgiving, and kind of mellow. We were kind of worn out from the weekend, so we didn't get down there until 11:00 AM, and there were plenty of spots left.

I doubt that will be the case for the MNF game, though...I have a feeling the lot is going to fill up early, as it did for the Dallas MNF game. Due to some family issues, we didn't get to the Sports Complex until 7:30 for the Dallas game, and were one of the last cars to get into the gihugic lot formerly known as Veterans Stadium. Not sure if any of you have parked there yet, but it's like a Disney World-sized parking lot.

I might wear the old-school Seth Joyner on Monday night...don't get to bust that one out very often these days.

i find out there are face value tickets on ticketmaster. i call up friend and we decide to go. were looking around, ticketmaster is a backed up. we find equal to face tickets on stubhub. i fill in all the info, about to click the place order button, then power goes out for a split second. i lose internet connection for a few minutes, and in that time someone else buys the tickets. i give up. my friend calls me at 130am and tells me he found more tickets on ticketmaster. i say go for it. he buys them.

my first home game in a few years. their probably gonna get killed. but whatever. as john madden says: football........is football.

More like ten times face value and I'm not complaining.

So, I'll be in downtown Philly for the first time in about 15 years this week for MNF.  I'm staying at 16th and Chestnut while in Philly.

My question -- where is the best place to go buy my Eagles paraphenalia (sweatshirt, jersey, hat, etc, etc)?  Should I just buy them at the Linc, or are there better places?  Any street sales that go on for the t-shirts and stuff (you know -- cheap and barely legal)?
Title: Re: Seahawks Game
Post by: MURP on December 01, 2005, 11:53:23 AM
There is always stuff to buy at the tailgates.   During the Packers tailgate I picked up a $5 tshirt that said "The Eagles are playing like shtein, pass me another beer"   and  $5 Dawkins beanie hat.  I have so many $5  tshirts from over the years im gonna have to start giving em to the poor.

As far as downtown Philly goes, you can check out Mitchell and Ness website (http://www.mitchellandness.com/) which is at 13th and Chestnut.  That stuff aint cheap though, more of the authentic jersey type stuff.   Unless I've missed something lately, Center City has a couple small sporty collectible types here and there but nothing special.   Your best bet is to just to buy stuff at the Linc since they will have everything you could want and then see if you can find the fun tailgate shirts and junk for shteins and giggles.

* and dont pay $10 for the tailgate gear unless you just have to have it right then.  They almost always try to get you to spend $10.  Offer $5 and if they say no, wait until later.  They usually come back around with the leftovers and will take $5 for it.

On the local Philadelphia news this morning, they're talking about a snow storm of some sort coming up from the South around the tail end of evening rush hour on Monday (approximately 5:00 - 9:00 PM). They are saying something "significant" could be coming tomorrow, but the computer models are not yet sure enough to predict timing and accumulations.

Might be an interesting tailgate and game, indeed.

I spent the better part of 30 minutes looking for that Polish flag on Monday night.

I had tried calling MURP to see where he was, and got his voice mail.  So I kept walking around hoping to see him (granted, I had only met him once a year ago, so I wasn't entirely sure I would even recognize him), or hoping he would call back.  Finally, I see MURP right next to me, grilling up a couple of steak sandwiches.  I give him the hand shake, the customary man-shoulder-bump, and start talking with him.  My buddy and I didn't have a beer on us, so we asked for a couple of his.  MURP of course, obliged, and even gave us a couple of red cups to pour our beer in so the cops wouldn't give us any trouble.  So me and my buddy are hanging out about 5 minutes, and one of MURP's friends asks us "How do we know you?"  And I said "I'm Demon!"  ...  blank stares.  Again -- "I'm Demon, fool!" ... blank stares.  I asked MURP -- "Aren't you MURP?"  No, he answers.

Whoops...  wrong tailgate.  But, we were at least able to get a couple of beers off him and have a decent conversation before we went on our way.

About 3 minutes after we left, the real MURP finally called and gave us directions on the REAL tailgate was...

Ah yeah....   good times.....

Because Indianapolis is gay, they don't sell packaged beer on Sundays. We were walking around with steaks, brauts, and what not trying to trade our food for any liquor/beer. We ended up getting plenty o' beer and even some vodka. :yay

I couldn't find it on Monday either. That's twice this year I was within a 100 yards of the CF tailgate and couldn't find it, and I was sober. When I was drunk I found it right away ....  :sly

No you didn't.  The time just passed faster since you were loaded.  I was in Salzburg Austria a few years ago and got smashed at a bar one night.  The place closed down and I started wondering my way back to my hotel.  I had a hard time finding it because everything looks the farging same over there but thought it only took me about an hour or so to finally find it.  Turned out it took me almost 5 hours.  I left the bar around 2:30 and got to my room just a few minutes passed 7.  I never knew how quickly time could fly when you're sharing a wine bottle with the Austrian homeless in the middle of the night.

I've been to Salzburg too, Sarge, and it's a beautiful place...but, it all looks the same during the day, as well.

That place is amazing.  The funny part about the whole thing was that this was my first day in town.  I drove in from Stuttgart, checked into my hotel, cleaned up and went right back out to do some sight seeing/drinking/drunk Austrian chick hunting.  So after walking around the city for a while and getting something to eat I finally settle into a nice little pub.  The people were friendly and it was a pretty happening place.  So when the place closes down and I walk out the door I realize that I was just wondering around all day, not really paying attention to where I was or anything and wasn't sure how to get back to the hotel.  No big deal, I figure I'll just ask somebody.  So I go ask a bartender and realized I didn't know the name of the hotel I was staying at.  So I decided to just head off in the general direction of where I thought the hotel was.  And as I'm wondering around I bump into a few whinos and so I'm standing around bs'ing with them for a little bit and then wonder off again and find a new group of whinos to converse with and I continued this pattern for quite some time.

So I'm still drunk and lost and I pull a cigarette out and then I pull the matchbook out of my pocket and I notice I'm down to my last match.  So I light my smoke and I just happened to look at the front of the match book.  Naturally it was from the hotel I was staying at.  It also turned out that the hotel was only a couple of blocks away from the bar I ended up at but because I had just been wondering around all day before going in the bar I had absolutely no clue what so ever.

So it was about 2:30 am when I left the bar.  By the time I got back to my hotel room it was about 7:15.  Good times.

Or at least that's what the Austrian male prostitute told you after having his way with you for six hours....

You could be right.  I was pretty farged up.  Regardless, I don't remember it so it never happened.  Even if it did happen.  Which it didn't.  I think.  :paranoid

I'm not sure.  I took quite the explosive dump when I woke up later that day from drinking an inordinate amount of Heffavisen (or however the hell you spell it).  All I know is that it was the 2nd nastiest shtein I've ever taken in my life.  When I got done I looked down in the bowl and wanted to puke yet I was extremely proud at the same time.  I took a picture but Wal Mart refused to develope it.  :-\

Censorship sucks...if it wasn't for digital cameras and the internet, it'd be really difficult to find a good picture of well done a pile of crap anywhere.

Yay, technology!   :yay
