Title: Injuries from the game
Post by: PhillyGirl on August 15, 2005, 11:45:48 PM
Labinjo - MCL sprain

Grasmanis - foot sprain

Ritchie - quad contusion

None of the injuries are (at first glance) serious, according to Reid.

Grasmanis (or should it be Glassmanis?) is done. He can't stay healthy at all.

Ritchie took a nasty hit on that dump-off. I got scared for a second that his knee was hurting again. Good to se he's OK.

Yup, I was nervous when I saw that hit on Ritchie too. Must have been a helmet to the quad. ouch.

Yeah, that's what I did.  ::)  Farging tool.

The guy went low at the legs. You don't go low at the legs like that, helmet first, trying to hit a quad. You're going low to take out the legs at the knees. I'm a chick who never played football (except Powder Puff) and even I know that.

I had no issue with Taylor's hit. I was just worried that Ritchie wasn't going to get up from it. If he tries to tackle Jon high, then he gets dozed for a TD.

Rod Hood showed what happened when you try to tackle high, you usually miss.

Tackling low is what you're supposed to do (so that you don't get run over) but diving headlong at someone's knee area isn't what I consider a "good tackle." Maybe I'm just a stickler for form, but I can't stand watching guys diving at legs trying to bring someone down.

Eh, maybe.

It also bugs me when officials let defensive guys plow into guys that are already tackled and/or lying on the ground and they spear them in the back. Defenders can't breathe on a WR when they're running around but they can blast them in the back when they're lying on the ground not moving. The NFL boggles the mind sometimes.

QuoteInjury Update

Brown wasn't the only cornerback on the injury report. CB Matt Ware is suffering from a toe infection on the bottom of his big toe. Ware had to have to toe cut and drained, he is day-to-day.

RB Correll Buckhalter is going to continue rehab this week on his knee. The swelling is down, but not all the way. At the end of the week, Buckhalter's knee will be checked out again.

DE Trent Cole sprained his sternum in Monday night's loss at Pittsburgh. He is having an MRI on Wednesday.

DT Paul Grasmanis suffered a foot strain. The team believed it could have been a Lis franc sprain, but it's not. As for DE Jamaal Green's foot strain, the team is erring on the side of caution.

Offensive lineman Jamaal Jackson's tricep tear is improving. He is getting stronger, according to Coach Reid, and they are optimistic he will return soon.

LB Mike Labinjo suffered an MCL sprain in the Pittsburgh game and is day-to-day. FB Jon Ritchie is also day-to-day with a knee contusion on the same knee that he had ACL surgery on last season.

It looked like a dangerous hit to me.

It was, Ritchie wasn't coming head on, he was concentrating on catching the ball and right as he turned around the guy went head/shoulder first right into the top of the knee/quad area.  He didn't go for the midsection, he went low right at the knee area when Ritchie wasn't even looking.

And as was noted, PE.com says it was a knee contustion, not a quad injury.   :boo  If you watch that play again, listen to the sound.   :boo

I'll pass thanks.  It was a cheap hit IMO.  Everyone has their own opinion on the matter.  If Ritchie has a chance to see it coming, then yeah it was a decent hit, but when you go low that hard on a player that is looking back to catch a pass, I think it is a cheap hit.

It wasn't a dirty hit. Watch CB's tackle RB's guys. They go low 90% of the time.
Title: Re: Injuries from the game
Post by: RomeyRome on August 17, 2005, 08:36:14 PM
They shouldn't do anything(in regards to rule changes), I just think the players have to have a respect for the players they are going against.  When a guy is not looking, you shouldn't go hard right at his knees especially in the first preseason game, period.  That's just chickenshtein football.  This isn't black or white here, there is a lot of grey area and it is a case by case situation.  I'm not saying no one should ever tackle low or hit someone who isn't looking, I never said that.  I'm talking about THIS case, a preseason game, guy is not looking and you go hard right at his knees.
There's no respect in that hit IMO.

I was a 165 pound defensive back in high school and I was taught to put my shoulder pad right into the outside knee and wrap up when I made a tackle.

If that's cheating or dirty play, it's the first I've ever heard of it.

I watched the play several times again last night.  Still not even close to a dirty play.   Ritchie catches the ball, as soon as he turns around he is hit in the legs for the tackle.   If you cant understand why a 190lb CB tackles a 250lb FB at the legs you better go back to watching  figure skating.

rewatched it on lunch break(TiVo) IT was a clean hit, not intentional and it was borderline top of the knee area. I'm sure it hurt, but you hardly blame a guy for hitting. Was he supposed to ask Ritchie to hold still so he could line it up better. Full speed game action shouldn't be over scrutinized by anyone not on the field.  :=)

Do you guys follow a script or something? Always on point, always working together, always saying the same things.
Man I hope someday I can be apart of some cool group of random people over a computer, who say the same things I do over and over. Man that will be the defining moment of my life. ::)

hey douche, atleast 4 people talked about it being a dangerious hit before you gave your weak "opinion."  Maybe you should stop repeating what everybody says.    I'll pray for Jesus to save you, cause your satanic attitude isnt cool.

Per SportsFinal:

Wynn - Out 3-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain and a bone bruise in his knee.

Jenkins - Likely done for the season

Akers - OK

moats for PR duty?

I'm sure he'll get a shot at it...but Reno Mahe will be the #1 PR until Wynn returns.

Moats is a rookie and while explosive, we don't know how sure his hands are when fielding punts. He already has had a bout of fumblitis before in his career, so do you trust him back there? Do you risk injury to Westbrook and/or Sheppard (who also likes to cough it up)?

Looks like Dex's injury has opened the door for Reno Mahe to have a job.

AR confirmed that Jenkins is done for the year.

Determination on Buck to made today.

Wynn to be out a few weeks, hopefully back by opener.

Ware back practicing.

AR says Mahe, Sheppard and Westbrook are in line in that order for PR duty.

I should hang on this board more, apparently I miss alot of shtein!   :paranoid

Also, for the record MY opinion of the hit on Ritchie...legal and clean.  I've seen worse hits in a girls softball game.

we may look to bring back Freddie Milons as a temp solution (he was just released yesterday).  I recall him doing some PR duty for us a few years back.

QuoteI think it was in Madden 01 or 02 I returned like 16 kickoffs for td's with him.  Which is proof positive that no matter how realistic football games are getting, they are still no where near the real thing.

Not according to Sarge.

Doubt it. I think they'd go with Robert Redd before Freddie Milons.
