'We were just burning': Ga. man poured boiling water over gay couple as they lay in bed, police say

Blackwell, 48, was arrested on two counts of aggravated battery, according to Fulton County Jail records. He is being held without bail.

Georgia has had no hate crime statute since the state's supreme court struck down the law in 2004. But WSBTV reported that Blackwell could face federal hate crime charges for the alleged attack.

Marquez told the TV station he has no doubt that hate was what fueled this.

Two Howard students questioned after fatal attack

A 16-year-old student has died after she was assaulted at Howard High School of Technology Thursday morning, Wilmington police said.

Detectives from the homicide and violent crimes unit are interviewing multiple students who are considered persons of interest in the assault, according to a source close to the investigation. Two female students were taken to police headquarters for further questioning, police Chief Bobby Cummings said. Police said they do not believe anyone outside the school was involved.

Girlfriend teaches there. Didn't know the student personally but said of course the teachers that had her are a mess. Apparently was a real good student.

It's a damn shame because that school had an awful reputation up until 3 or 4 years ago where they really turned it around and have become one of the better schools. This is going to ruin that progress.
