It isn't about an end date, it's about not overloading hospitals so the people in them have a chance to recover. I know you don't care about other people, but thankfully your opinion doesn't count.

Hospitals aren't overloaded, they're starting to do elective surgeries again.

Again ITS NOT GOING TO MAGICALLY DISAPPEAR...there needs to be a balance. Unemployment just hit a record high.

Find a balance, he says, while his kid coughs into the face of some Estonian art student dressed up like a Disney Princess who hasn't seen her family in six months.

Or you know...she could maybe wear her mask in public like she has been doing and practice proper hygiene...balance grasshopper

That's the thing...there is no end date. They're just delaying the inevitable. Unless you're banking on the magic vaccine it's time to grip the reality that opening the world up and monitoring the high risk is a happy median. There is no perfect solution but there is a balance.

That's very clearly not true, as evidenced by places actually able to test and contact trace.

What you're proposing isn't a "happy medium", it just leads to morr people dying faster.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

...you do realize they haven't gotten overloaded specifically because of the policies that you're now clamoring to end, right? And if you end too soon with people out there infected and not being tested/traced...the hospitals could then get overloaded very quickly?

Until people realize that then yeah, there will not be an end in sight.

The distancing measures and lockdowns were the reasons the systems have not been overrun.

Texas is opening back up. They can spout off the whole 25% capacity bullshtein but that is being ignored. So lets see how this works out. If the second wave hits and the ICU's become overwhelmed then we'll know. Unfortunately I hate to be part of the GOP's farging science experiment. Actually, no, that is wrong. They don't believe in science. So I am part of their ridiculous desire to 1) wear a mask [the horrrrorrrr] 2) eat out at a restaurant 3) get a farging manicure and a hair dye

Cool. Do you think Elsa's gonna get to wear a mask? I know you don't care if she dies a painful death, but do you think the other ten million kids she's got to hug every day have parents as super smart and responsible as you?

So when's the end date? Germany lifted their extreme restrictions and so far so good.

What I'm "proposing" is masks, proper hygiene, and limiting restrictions. You guys act like I want people to start spitting in each other's mouths. Get a farging grip.

If you could count on the people in this country to follow your sensible common sense plan, this should would already be over. Since they can't, we all get to stay the farg home.

Rome

Americans always know better.  Until we don't which is every single farging time.  It's insanity pure and simple.

We dwarf every other country in deaths and infections BECAUSE we're stubborn, ignorant, arrogant fargheads who elect iceholes like Trump.

So how do we respond after we mock science and laugh at warnings?  We double the farg down on our stubbornness, ignorance and arrogance.

Like I said.. purely insane.

Need to get me one of those sweet facebook shirts with a Five Finger Death Punch skeleton on it that says "My PPE comes from Smith & Wesson."

Just got back from target, everyone was in masks, theres wipes for carts which everyone was using, there's plastic barriers between register/customers, everyone stood on their red dot 6 ft back, all self checkouts were wiped between customers. Aside from the every once in a while story of someone without a mask in public or acting stupid most people have been following guidelines.

What is "too soon" munson? Please tell me the date. They're going to lift restrictions soon. I can't see PA going past June 4th without major blowback.

Germany had aggressive testing in place as well! We don't, at least not yet, but we're finally getting close. That's the whole point everyone's been making as to why the Trump Admin response has been such a failure: if they had taken it seriously and ramped up testing and locked down the country earlier and were more aggressive like Germany and like South Korea, we could be on the same trajectory they are in terms of safety reopening. But because Trump felt the need to lie about it, we aren't. The solution to that isn't to just simply reopen everything anyway and possibly throw people and the doctors and nurses to the wolves. Because all that does is increase the chances you'll have to do another more harsh lockdown in a month or two.
