miguel algarin...he was the founder of the mythical nuyorican poets cafe in the LES...it was where slam poetry was birthed and played to some of the most incredible underground nyc hip hop acts and shows in the mid to late 90's of which i used to travel from philly to nyc on the train to see all the time...some unbelievably fun and memorable nights were had there and i am so glad i could say ive been at all much less numerous times....it also was a downtown cultural eco system spot for grass roots activism
