In one of the broadcasts, the announcer said the NFL's big push officially starts next week. Some of the home teams (notably the Chargers) took it upon themselves to get started early, but I think we're not really into the campaign yet. There are 5 October Sundays this year.

My friend's got a relative who is in the business of selling all that pink stuff. She makes obscene amounts of money and has become very wealthy off of it. The whole thing is ethically very strange.

It's slightly different for the NFL. Their primary reason isn't to directly make money from junk sales. They do it to market the game to women and as something they can trot out in response to their athletes beating women.

I believe the NFL also charges the Komen foundation, which is a joke of an org, too. But that doesn't shock me because they charge the military to honor them too.
