because they werent throwing as much, as hard or with the same kind of force. also there was limited to no advanced medicine, no x-rays, etc. so pitchers used to pitch through ridiculous injuries and arm ailments that they do not do now.

the talent in the game has gotten so much better over the past 2 decades that the requirements to be an effective pitcher puts an insane amount of strain and pressure on the arm. a lot dont hold up. the idea is to work pitchers up to throwing 250+ innings in a year. the idea is to limit their innings and pitches when working their way back from injury or an extended rest (see hill tonight).

if you want to disagree with people who study the human arm for a living, keep going. im sure they value the opinion of the best god damn lumbar salesman in houston.

no, its not. yes theres no difference between 85 and 86, but hill has had a massive amount of arm issues this season and in his career.

its not like he got pulled with 2 outs in the 9th because he hit some magic number. challenging science is not a good look. just stop.
