because they have exceeded expectations i find myself sometimes forgetting that they are a bad team...think of it that way and late game losses don't mean much...its what not good teams do

so now that the playoff thing is over, its not possible for a philly team to make the playoffs until the spring of 2017

Long term it is better for the Flyers to not be in the playoffs this year.  They still need building (particularly offensively) before they can really contend for the Cup.

Still stinks to not see the playoffs for so long, though.

they do have a lot of games in hand on teams but strictly from a pts aspect the flyers are the same distance from the number one overall pick as they are to the playoffs

My thoughts exactly. That 5 minute major kill off was insane. I want playoff hockey back, even if they get bounced in the first round. Hockey is an odd sport, you get a hot goalie and you never know what happens. This current team doesn't have a SC run in them but farg it.

My concern has less to do with the draft position and more to do with how management responds to being in the playoff hunt. I think I'm just stung from years of chasing that 'final piece' at the expense of making the smart long-term choices to move the team forward. Doesn't seem like Hextall's style but if they start sniffing around as buyers at the trade deadline I'll be extremely bummed.

Yeah you don't shed awful contracts just to pick up more awful ones if you make the playoff as an 8th seed.

Again, you're sort of mis-understanding my concern. I don't think they'll go in search of signing everything that moves. I just don't want them going after ANYONE or giving up ANYTHING at the deadline. If they're close to a playoff spot in a few weeks, how they manage that situation will say a lot about how much we can trust this team with its newfound sanity.
