ice grillin you

so if you are watching something in google chrome you can hit 570 or whatever channel espn is on cable and it will flip right to it and then you could hit last channel and go back to google chrome?....or is there more steps and do you have to wait for the program on google chrome to reload and shtein

i always thought things like google chrome are for watching a movie on netflix all the way thru...its not something youd use if you were planning on flipping around and watching four different things at once
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

google chrome runs on a different input.  so if your cable is input 1, chomecast would be like input 2.  so to watch chromecast you would need to switch inputs

right.....so when you use it or anything that "streams" to your tv you are using it with the intent of watching something straight thru...tv show episode(s) a movie or in this case the buffalo jacksonville game.....which is not "extroidinarly similar" to watching cable as the lil guy said

Exactly - you can't flip channels

It sucks but I'll use my tv app so at least I'll have a big picture

farg a damn streaming game

SunMo

yeah, sorry the technology that didn't exist 5 minutes ago isn't the best thing that ever happened

i could care less that something is new technology and am more than happy to move onto it....but only when its more user friendly than the old technology...a movie on netflix is better than a dvd cause you dont have to get off the couch....but dont tell me watching a streaming live sporting event is close to the same thing as watching cable tv like the lil guy always does....and thenwhen you tell him it isnt the same he throws out dinosaur

yeah, i'm right there with you...i flip around the channels during every commercial break...especially if it's a game i have little/no interest in...can't really do that effectively with streaming.   :boo

the act is exactly the same...its a game on your tv with hd picture.

sure, you cant flip around to different channels at the same speed that you could with cable. my workaround on that is having 1 thing on the tv and another thing on my chromebook, and possibly, another thing on the cell. 3 screens bitches. like last saturday i had a&m/bama on tv and mich/msu on my computer. on sunday i games on tv and a redzone stream on the computer. it works! and im not giving comcrap $100 a month.

at some point down the line they will make the switching between apps better, but like johnny said, this technology is 5 minutes old.

Have to imagine that if/when the NFL offers up a 100% live stream of all their games, they will have found a few nerds smart enough to build in the option to "channel hop."  Although I think that will probably be the easy part. The hard part will be having Internet that is fast enough to make the transition from one game to the next as instantaneous as it is when changing channels through traditional tv.

For someone like me, who can only get dsl via phone line, I could start the stream at kickoff, but probably wouldn't actually see any action until there's 10 min left in the first qtr. So for me to try and switch back and forth between games would result in me spending my Sunday afternoons watching a lot of buffering and very little football.

we're a ways away from any kind of streaming exclusivity of consequence

my uneducated guess is, if this thing and some subsequent experiments go well, by next decade they will look for a separate streaming option for games to along with what will air on regular tv. not sure if this will happen for just cable games, because broadcast tv is unaffected by cord cutting, but that's my guess.

so like the monday night game will air on espn or something, then also stream live and likely free on yahoo/google/etc.

shtein i get annoyed when my cable channels dont move fast enough to another game....another thing you need for streaming to make it even close to equal is dvr....i use it all the time for sports...after hitting last channel i use it to rewind the game i wasnt on to see what happened
