havas is drunk....theres nothing i can do here but this

the phillies have options. tons of options. prospects are percentages. kris bryant is like a 95%....rube amaro's nephew is like a 0. the phillies have a lot of guys that, over the next 2-3 years, have a minimum 30-40% chance of hitting. not every card is going to hit. but you have to figure, with all these options, 1 or 2 will.

thats why they now have a top 10 system in baseball. do they have a future mvp candidate? probably not. but remember. they have 200 mil to spend. they dont need to produce 8 stud position players. they already have a semblance of a base. in the 17 or 18 offseason they can start spending money and adding big time pieces.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

look at the current teams

the royals have some very nice players, but no prospects espn jizzed over like bryant. the cardinals produce solid player after solid player. the giants produced 2 flat out studs and filled in around them. the yankees lone home grown player of note is brett gardner. the dodgers spent wildly and drafted well. the blue jays blew up their farm system. the nats mixed in FA signings, trades and home grown talent and got very lucky that a once in a generation talent was there for them. the cubs drafted insanely well.

theres a ton of different ways to build up in baseball...this isnt the nba where you need to have a super star other worldly player.

#1565
i cant predict which ones will hit and which ones wont, but between

altherr-sweeney-herrera-hernandez-galvis-knapp-williams-cousins-kingery-alfaro-tocci and a few others guys that im forgetting...

youd hope to have a 2B, C and 1-2 OFs (maybe 1 is a platoon). with your 3B and SS taken care of, that leaves looking toward FA for an outfield spot and a 1B. thats a pretty good deal.

next year youll know more about altherr and sweeney. by summer you should see williams and maybe alfaro. knapp has been destroying the ball at AA but he might not have a position. OPTIONS!

lets say 4? a catcher, a 2B, and 2 OFs. then they spend that comcast money on a big corner OF bat and a 1B (though maybe alfaro isnt a catcher, so he moves to first and they spend on a catcher).

pitching is a different beast....they have plenty of depth. thompson and nola and maybe efflin are good ML talent. but they dont have anybody next-level. thatll need to come outside the organization (matt harvey 2019!).

I agree with drunk havas and disagree. I agree the Phillies don't have a plethora of stud talent in the minors . Franco/Crawford have a chance to be good, think Nola falls into a 2/3 pitcher if everything goes right, Giles is nice as a closer, but then you have a bunch of maybes. I mean, there's guys that have a chance to make the majors but they're maybe middle of the pack prospect wise after all the trades.

Where I disagree with him is that a bunch of phillies fans have overhyped their prospects. Most fans I interact with agree with everything I've said above. Sure you get the homer Todd/Jay types who think Nick Williams is the next Willie Mays but by and large they're realist.

The best thing they've done is clear salary because there's not enough minor league talent to fill their needs so they're going to have to add talent via free agency if they plan on contending in the next 5 years.

MDS

ive never said nick williams is willie mays....j doesnt know who williams is. hes a straight forward ML dude.

i said they have a bunch of options. a bunch of "maybes." they need 3 or 4 of the maybes to hit. the odds are high that that will happen. im not the one who ranked the phils 7th in mlb in farm systems. alls i can do is point to that, point to that potential and tell you neanderthals to be patient and get ready for 2017.

Lolol I know who he is. Nice try, buddy

SD

Aside from Crawford/Franco/Nola/Giles who are their 3 of 4 maybes you think make it? They'll be lucky if 2 of their current minor leaguers make significant major league contributions. Hopefully they get the #1 pick this season and that player turns out. Pitching staff is going to have to be built through free agency because their minor league arms are barren

in person phillie fans dont seem to be super homers for the most part...at least not ones from philly....there is a tangible difference....thats why i said i was so happy to talk to this guy up here...internet heads seem to be out of their minds

in general i agree with the clearing salary and even the trades i have liked a lot...they have done as best they could under not friendly circumstances....but just because they did the best they could doesnt mean they loaded up the farm with ridiculous talent

you guys are really confused about what it takes to have a good team

you dont need 8 all stars and 5 aces.
