buchanan: -1.5 war, 1.57 whip, 9.00 era
guthrie: -1.5 war, 1.57 whip, 5.65 era

buchanan only has 10 starts, compared to the 20+ for the other dudes. but that 9 flat era is something special. also williams stats dont include tonight.

They picked him up off the scrap heap in Texas last year and he proceeded to not be the worst pitcher in the universe.

So, of course, naturally Roob decides that the best course of action is to sign him to the most lucrative contract of his farging career despite the fact that he's sucked every other place he's ever been.

It's the Phillies way, bro.  Embrace it.

I actually like him...i mean if you are going to suck it's sorta neat to be able to legit say you might have the single worst SP in mlb on your team....there's a lot of pitchers in the league

im not even sure if hes the worst....jeremy guthrie is having a special season and hes doing it for a very good team

williams would have been DFAed if not for the phillies being horrible

The Phillies knew they were going to be horrible so they signed this bag of dicks to ensure it.  Yes, I understand that.  No, I don't care what they paid him.  I just thought it was comical that they paid him the highest salary of his career when every other major league team would have undoubtedly given him the veteran minimum, if that.  They also gave Aaron Harang a small fortune, and of course, he hasn't earned a dime of it either, but at least he had past seasons where he was a really good pitcher.  Not anytime recently, obviously, but still...

This team sucks.  It was going to suck whether they signed them or not.  And although I don't care about their payroll per se, I just find it amusing that this team continued signing these losers to some fairly lusty and generous deals when every other team said, uhhhh, pass.
