babip is avg. of balls in play...essentially it eliminates strikeouts and homers because everything else, to a certain extent, is luck

FV i have no idea

70 raw power is scout speak. scouts grade players on a 20-80 scale, for whatever reason. so 70 is a pretty god damn good.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

dont pay attention to most of that.....listen to the scouts

except the 70 raw power stuff....these are simple skill set rankings....its just a way of grading a players power speed etc....really no different than grading a football player on his individual attributes....the annoying thing is because they are baseball nerds they cant do a 1-10, 10-100 or even a letter grade...they have to do 20-80 to make themselves seem smarter

the babip future value and all that is worthless

what is most important is what all the scouts say and there is a lot of that in there

i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

They got reamed.  Just admit it.  You'll feel better.

first off, its going to take 3 years to figure out any of that

second, they werent getting urias, schwarber, seager, gallo, etc. teams dont trade those guys anymore.

third, they had to trade hamels. had to. they have 0 chance to win a title for the next 3-4 years and keeping an expensive arm on the wrong side of 30 makes no sense. they got what they could for him and what they got is 5 players that could all wind up being pieces at the ML level. or they could all suck. i dont know, and neither do you.

their farm system now has a bunch of different potential ML options thatll be ready over the next 2 years. this could all come together in 2017 or 2018, or it could not. point is, there is some light and some hope now. there is a foundation brewing. and there is money to spend.

Agree with this, I think they got the best offer they could. He's worth less next year because of all the arms that will be on the free agent market. I wish they could have dealt with Houston but oh well.

The catcher if he can stay healthy should be a major league player
You have Franco at 3rd
Crawford at SS
Galvis is fine at 2nd until they find someone better
Maybe Nick Williams turns into a decent major league outfielder
Nola will probably be a 2/3 type starter
Giles is a good closer

So you have some pieces, maybe add some free agents in a few years to solidify the offense. Howard will be off the books by then. So it's a rebuilding plan but at least there's a glimmer of hope

currently they have 65 mil on the books for 2016--14.5 of that is buyouts for utley and lee
25 for howard, 13 for harrison, 8.5 for chooch. 4.6 for MAG. thats it.

in 2017, its down to 24 mil. 10 of which is howard's buyout. the rest is harrison.

in 2018, they have 2 mil on the books. 2 mil. thats just harrison's buyout.

their payroll can easily be around the 150-200 mil range. they are going to be able to go farging nuts, especially on short term contracts that wont hurt them when the nola's, franco's, jp's become arbitration eligible and start making some money in 2019, 2020 area. this is a lot of money to spend!

phillies will be under 500 this year...book it

MDS

not sure if there will be mutual interest, but jason heyward is a free agent. hes 25.

phils have loads of money to spend...he will likely still be a pretty good player in 2-3 years when theyre really ready (maybe)....possibly frees up corny randy as a trade chip to get a pitcher in a few years. just an idea.

He's right about the money, though. They won't have anyone ready to cash in for half a decade.

They could spend a fortune once the dregs are gone, but I think that would be a huge mistake.

1) im right about everything

2) it depends on how they spend it. short term (1-3 year) contracts for whatever sum of money will not be a "huge mistake." now theyre likely not going to get anybody amazing, but they could pick up a few decent pieces here and there that could, combined with the young players, turn this thing around quicker than youd think. i dont mean theyd win the series, id mean you wouldnt have .350 baseball to watch.

heyward is the exception, since hes so young. they could make a long term investment in him, knowing that the first year or two of the deal might not result in anything tangible. you couldnt take that risk on grienke, cueto or justin upton. those FA signings are for teams ready to win right that second.
