Ozzie Smith is the best defensive shortstop in the history of the game and their offensive totals other than HR's are almost identical.

Yep - clearly LOL-worthy.

Kinda early to be hippoing, no?

ice grillin you

lol at their stats being equal....is this a joke...jimmy has 1000 less at bats and still has better numbers in most areas...and dominates in many

i dont think jimmy is a hall of famer....but theres no question he is a superior player to ozzie

ozzie was a slappy singles hitter with an all time glove who got way overrated cause of highlite reel plays and cartwheels in the field

so considering jimmy's numbers are comparable to ripkien, larkins & smith. where's the debate again ?  :sly
If guns kill people then spoons made Rosie O'Donnel a fatass.

They're not comparable to Ripken because he has over 3000 hits and 400 home runs. Plus the consecutive games streak. His numbers speak for themselves regardless of position. The other two players he's very comparable to.

also im not saying fielding doesnt count because it absolutely should but when talking gold glovers is there really that much of a difference

whats the difference bwtn the best fielder of all time and the 20th best...probably not much...ozzie was better than jimmy in the field no one would ever say otherwise...but lets be honest the gap was pretty small

you're right overall but by 162 game avgs jimmy is better in hits, doubles, triples, & runs. but yeah i know jimmy won't play 3000 plus games so he'll never come close to cal's totals but thought it was worth mentioning.

point being his offensive numbers are up there with the last few shortstops elected to the HOF minus of course ripken's freak total numbers.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Rollins has a better fielding % than Smith too.

Rome

For 140 years the job of a shortstop was defense.  That's it.  Catch the ball, start the double play, the end.

Ozzie was a horrendous hitter when he first hit the big leagues.  Christ - he was traded for farging Garry Templeton, for farg's sake.

But he worked himself into one of the most dangerous hitters in the Bigs.

15 time all-star.  13 time gold glover.  400+ career doubles.  580 stolen bases.  1,072 career walks.  And roughly the same career BA as Rollins (.262 & .268).  Best glove man ever at the position and it's not even close.

Don't give me farging Jimmy Rollins.  Please.

PS: For the millionth time, I love Jimmy.  I'm not trashing him here at all but the homer love in here for that guy is just retarded.  He's an all-time Phillie great.  No doubt about it but comparing him favorably to Jeter, Ozzie or Ripken is just embarrassing.

That's as egregious an overstatement as anyone over complimenting Rollins.

Smith was an all-time defensive shortstop, and credit him for working to become an acceptable offensive shortstop, but come on.  Ozzie was a slap hitter who hit over .290 twice in 18 years.  Perfectly acceptable offensive production for someone given his defensive abilities but one of the most feared hitters?  By who?
