it was the right play except it was the wrong play

i love baseball
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Munson

The whole "bunt him over and hope for a single" thing has been proven to work less often than having the extra out and hoping for two singles, and/or getting another guy a chance to bat instead of giving up the free out.

I'm sure with some pitchers who are especially bad at hitting, the odds might swing closer to the bunt's favor...but the math on it says most of the time, nah.

I'm not really a stats geek, but yeah bunting doesn't make it any more likely that you'll score.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

QuoteFrandsen has performed well for the Nationals, carrying a .714 OPS into Friday's action. Meanwhile, Phillies pinch-hitters have slashed .194/.257/.387. They have had MLB-worst production out of third basemen Cody Asche, Freddy Galvis, and Jayson Nix with an aggregate .478 OPS. Outfielder John Mayberry, Jr. has the highest OPS among the team's bench players at .673.

As Adam Kilgore wrote in his column on the subject, "It's hard to imagine Frandsen wouldn't be one of the Phillies' best 25 players." In fact, Frandsen might've been one of the top-ten most productive players on the Phillies' current roster.

Oh dear.

Tonight's lineup is gonna be great.  Freddy hitting 2nd (replacing Jimmy), Mayberry batting 7th and Nix batting 8th, with Kendrick pitching.

JA Happ aka Sandy Koufax holds them scoreless.

Byrd triples off the new Jays pitcher with no out. Choke flies out to right and Bautista guns Byrd

Yay.

MDS

sandberg could possibly be worse for manuel

batting glavis 2nd instead of chooch....AAAberry...nix...ANYONE is utterly insane. its beyond comprehension. it didnt cost them the game because good lord they suck regardless but jesus christ how stupid can you be.

if any homers want to know why i am so negative here's the reason. THEY STINK

Geowhizzer

Missed most of tonight's game to watch my son's little league team in their playoffs.  They would probably beat the Phils at this point.

PhillyPhreak54

You didn't miss much.

Sandberg is very Tito Franconaish with his lineups. That Bataan death march of shtein he out out there tonight reeked of Tito playing Sefcik and Co all the time.

Let's talk about one Domonic Dallas Brown shall we?

Looking more likely he should've been dealt while the iron was hot. His swing is long and he's missing crushable pitches.

MDS

he still has 1 homer since last august and is being platooned with john mayberry jr....even though hes hitting much better against lhp. like significantly so.

choke is hitting a crisp .235 vs. lefties which is actually better than i thought it was gonna be. ops vs. lhp 730, ops vs. rhp 813.

He should have stuck with football at The U.

Byrd doubles

1-33 hitting Freddy grounds to the pitcher and Byrd gets nailed in a rundown. Then Freddy gets caught in a rundown too! Trying to go to second!!

Boooooooooooo

Don Ho

Oh my God!  Galvis you farging stupid idiot.  Lead off double by Byrd and once again nada.
