That's basically what I'm getting at, and why I don't think Cole is a very good #1.  And I don't even hate the contract as much as you do.  It's bad, but I as long as he doesn't suffer any major injuries, I don't think it makes him untradeable like Choke....which was untradeable even before he ruptured his spleen.  In 2 or 3 years, even if Hamels is "just ok" the Phils could still get decent value for him because some GM out there with a team trying to make a playoff push or solidify their rotation for a deep playoff run will give up some young pieces to increase their shot at a WS.

well yeah i agree with that....age also has a lot to do with it...but its also not really fair comparing it to chokes...his is an all time bad contract

Yeah, I'm just saying that even with his contract, just mediocre pitching from Hamels over the next couple of years would still make him an attractive target for teams with playoff/WS hopes.  Pitcher has to be the most overpaid position in the 4 major sports, right?  Not just in dollars, but also the number of guys who sign outrageous contracts that they have no shot of ever living up to.   What else is there?  Goalie?  I know everyone hates the Flyers goalie and I'd imagine that netminders are often paid more than they're worth.  Do they get it with the same frequency that pitchers do?

actually goalies for the most part get a pretty fair market value...but thats because its well known how skitzo they can be...the flyers other goalie right now steve mason is the perfect example...he went from rookie of the year to almost out of the league....and bobrovsky who was a pretty bad goalie on the flyers for a few years is now the vezina favorite for the team mason used to play for

breezy tho is 1000% overpaid but thats because of ed sniders monster desire to win another cup before he dies and the flyers history of having no goalies...that perfect storm got a loser like breezy a monster deal

Yeah, that's the guy I was thinking of.  Don't people call him Breezaster...or something like that?  You know me....don't watch hockey, so I don't know if it's pretty normal for teams to give out big contracts to average/bad goalies.  I figured it would be since goaltending is kind of important and that the position might be "overvalued" in the NHL the same way that pitching is sometimes overvalued in MLB.  Sounds like it isn't though.

ice grillin you

it used to be important like qb's are important in football...but not anymore....any tom dick and harry can win a cup these days

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The second dinger HOF hit was just mashed.    Hamels looks putrid right now.   The last home run he gave up came on an 0-2 count and the hitter was clearly dialed in on it, as in it looked like he knew it was coming.

Munson

Lol at Hamels having "one pitch".

Major lol at Hamels being "okay".

And I'll even say "lol" at him being overpaid...because when you look at the contract that the 10-15 pitchers in the MLB that are better than him will get, he's paid pretty much right where he should be. Those guys that are better than him are gonna end up getting more years/more money.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Rome

stop making sense, munson.
