DH

Neither could afford him and Sixers would be able to offer more anyway

Anyone remember that article where Kwame stated he taught Bynum a lot of what he knows?

Hawk

Sixers basketball is finally relevant again.

Bynum makes this team a top 3 team in the East... maybe even top 2 with Rose's blown out knee.

mpmcgraw

This is at worst a fifth seed team now if Bynum can stay on the court.  Add that to a bunch of young guys who hopefully haven't hit their ceiling and this is a slam dunk.

Hawk

He makes the maximum amount of money is he resigns with the Sixers now, correct?

They still need a scorer. This is a huge step in the right direction but they still don't have anyone to close out a game, so being 'definite top 5' in the East is meaningless because they still can't compete with the best teams. Looking at the 2's and 3's is kind of laughable. Turner, Jrich, Young, Wright, Thad.. not a single consistent player there.

We were never going to win a title this year, so whatever.  Hopefully one of Turner, Young, etc... finally turns out to be reliable option on the team and then you go from there next year.  After this year if you give Bynum an extension and dump Hawes I'm pretty sure there's still around 10 million to spend on the 2013 free agent market which is going to be deep.

All that said I'd rather be the third, fourth or fifth seed rather than the seventh or eighth.  It's just more enjoyable.

In short:

The Sixers aren't better than the Heat and being a higher seed is better than being a lower seed.

You mean to tell me that in all the time you've been gone, you haven't gotten any smarter than this?

Hawk

We have the second best center in the league, if we can resign him, this trade just made the Sixers relevant for the forseeable future.

no i believe the max he can get is 105 if he becomes a free agent next summer which is about a 99% certainty

if he re ups with the sixers its 3-60

hes going to become a free agent...period

thats why i dont get why everyone is saying this is a bold move or a some sort of home run swing...how is it any different than if they waited until next july and made him the max offer to come to philly...do people really think hes gonna play here for a year and be like "oh, philadelphia, awesome"..."sign me up"
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous
