All he needed to do was make contact. Like Bowa and Mitch said on MLB Network...he is you big bat off the bench. Its his job to get that run in.

its the managers job to put the guy who has the best chance to get the run in to the plate.....thome is clearly done at this point in his career especially against lefties...his at bats this year have shown that...they have been pathetic

in charlies defense he doesnt exactly have a lot of great options to go to but thome was about last on the list in that situation....hes 1-12 this year with six strikeouts....dook shouldnt be in the majors much less at the plate there

as for last night you can over analyze it and play arm chair manager all you want, anyway you shake it they are not a good team. jim thome or placido polanco? laynce nix and ty wiggerton butchering balls in the field? john mayberry pinch hitting for juan pierre?

seriously. this is their team. besides la russa there isnt a manager on earth who is going to make the right calls or find the right lineup combination with this group. they are farging god awful because they dont have a lot of players that are "good." brilliant analysis, i know. but its the truth.
