They obviously needed a major shakeup and they got it with shipping out Carter & Richards.  I still think it wasn't necessary to trade both, though.  I think Richards should have been traded simply because he was the "leader" and he failed miserably in that role.

None of this matters, though.  The only thing that matters is Bryz.  They go as he goes.  If he's anywhere as good as he's looked these first two games they're legit contenders.

Also - the defense has been oppressively smothering.  That I love.

I actually thought the opposite - that if one was going to go, it had to be Carter.  His penchant of floating in circles rather than digging in and using his freaking size to get the dirty goals was hurting the team.  In the end, though, I think it was good for both to go.  And the return was about as good - and maybe better - than one could realistically expect.

The amount of young talent in the offensive core is staggering.  They actually have a real goalie.  The defense, which was supposed to be the strength last year, it the troubling part, with the aging of Pronger and Timmonen.

SD

I thought it was time for Carter to go, great regular season player but he sucked in the playoffs. Richards I thought they'd keep but the only way that would work would be to demote him as the Captain and that wasn't going to happen. In regards to the Carter trade they lucked out Courturier dropped as far as he did because I'm pretty sure they had their eyes on a young defenseman. I don't know why but the player I'm least optimistic about is the player I should be the most optimistic about which is Schenn.

Geowhizzer

I feel much the same way.  I don't know why, but there is just something about Schenn that is disquieting.  Courturier seems to be the real deal.  Voracek has the skills if he can put it together, and Simmonds is the new gawd.  Schenn is the one that I'm not sure will put it together.  He does have some skills, though.

SD

Schenn has a shteinload of hockey skills I just don't know how well they translate to the NHL game.

I hate when Flyers management signs or trades for a player like Carcillo or Hartnell then says "Flyers fans are going to love this guy". They're the exact opposite of what Flyers fans love. A guy like Simmonds fits that mold. He plays smart and has a take no shtein attitude.

SD

Flyers have 4 power plays already in the first and there's still over 6 minutes left. 2 of the calls were utterly ridiculous. If I'm Vancouver I'm pretty pissed.

Simmonds is the new GAWD

SD

And JVR makes it 3-0

Jesus Christ Vancouver's power play is ridiculous

simmonds is outrageous in front of the net.....easily my favorite player on the team and hes only played three games....because its the nhl and literally 20 teams can at any time can win the cup the flyers are right there with anyone....my only concern is their depth...last year if a top six forward got hurt youd be fine...but now if they were to lose a giroux for example it would be death

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

With the absence of the NBA along with nothing close to resembling professional football in Philly right now, I'm going to attempt to latch on to this awful sport, if for no other reason, so that I can have some sort of rooting interest between now and whenever the NBA comes back or April....which ever comes first.

Having said that, I probably won't watch more than 10 games this year but I'll be checking some box scores on the regular.  But when I do watch, I'm going to ask a lot of stupid questions.  So get ready for that.

Munson

NHL is far more exciting to watch then the NBA.

Still can't get over what's so exciting about a team scoring the 60th point in the middle of the 3rd quarter that will mean absolutely nothing at the end of the game.

I prefer sports like football, baseball, and hockey, where literally every score/run/goal could be the game winner.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

have all won cups in the near past......nhl has mirrored the nfl in that you dont need a great goalie to lead you on the ice and you dont need a great qb to lead you on the field anymore....these are things of the past

With basketball, it's just the sheer athleticism on display that's exciting to watch.  Watching D Rose cross someone over or Kevin Durant splitting a double team or Griffin jumping out of the gym.  As long as the refs aren't calling a game too tight, the action rarely stops (much like hockey) but there is so much more going on in say a 5 minute span of basketball than there would be in hockey.

Now obviously, hockey nuts will find all sorts or exciting things that happen in a scoreless 5 minute stretch, but you have to know what you're looking for.  With basketball, you don't need to know anything about the game but if you see Blake Griffin rattle the rim, you don't really need anyone to explain the awesomeness to you.

look i dont know about you but i dont trust russians. or germans. but germans dont do anything useful. so if you want to trust some 500 shadow rip jean wearing slime ball rooskie to win 16 playoff games by all means go for it. but i wouldnt count on it.

Sidney Crosby...

1. is a bitch and a Penguin
2. won a Cup
3. won a Gold for Canada against the US
