Yeah, forget the score or even Vick's picks.

The steelers manhandled the defense.  and yes, they were missing Dixon and Patterson, but with this new 9 wide technique, i don't know how much they will help vs the run, you need a big lineback to come fill the center gap and casey ain't it.

You've convinced me.  Why even bother watching the rest of the season?  They're doomed.

If you want to commit suicide after a preseason game, I say go with the feeling.

The LBs did not look good, but as far as having big LBs I don't think that is the answer.  Tennessee doesn't exactly have monsters in their LB corp.  And they were usually pretty successful against the run.

Matthews didn't look great last night, but really there wasn't one player that looked good on the first team defense that did.

it's cool, rome said it doesn't matter.  it's preseason so it doesn't count that the steelers got 10 yards per carry

The d looked like shtein but I'm trying to keep a semi optimistic view as to why.  There's several new starters, a new coaches and a new DC with a new scheme and they've had a little more than 2 weeks to practice.  Castillo mixed in a few blitzes last night and I'm hoping that's because they were treating this game more or less like another practice.  The offseason was short and they didn't have the luxury of having the last 4 months to teach schemes and techniques so they are forced to do it in the games.

That said, the interior of the DL is a concern considering Patterson's health.  Cole and Babin were lining up extremely wide last night to get better angles on the pass rush and that left the interior exposed, which was a large reason the Steelers were able to run right up the gut.  LB's didn't help, but the Eagles were simply outnumbered in the middle because Cole and Babin were out of the play before it even started.

The offense is what concerned me the most though.  The players are mostly unchanged and the system is the same.  Last night they played as if they all just met for the first time in the locker room.

They destroyed Baltimore.  I guess that doesn't count either, right Sunny?

So, to recap...

They played very well against the Ravens in a meaningless game and they played like shtein against the Steelers in a meaningless game.  So should I be encouraged by what they did against Bodymore or should I panic like a funhole about last night's awfulness?

Decisions, decisions.

SunMo

to bring more facts to your recap.

the starters played not even a full quarter and played well against Baltimore.

they played an entire half against pittsburgh and looked like shtein.

I really don't know what to think.  I'm glad there's people here who are capable of doing it for me, though.

This is from the NFC East blog on ESPN:

QuoteIn conclusion, it's like this: As the Giants did Saturday, the Eagles looked lousy in almost all respects Thursday. So I point this out, as I did with the Giants on Saturday. What I am not saying here is that the Eagles are in trouble as a result of anything we saw Thursday. The sky is not falling. This game matters not at all, except as a potential learning opportunity. Did it point to some potential trouble spots? Sure. But it doesn't mean the team isn't as good as people thought it would be. It just means the Eagles had a bad night in August. Kind of like the Steelers had last week against the taterskins. And you saw how they bounced back from that.

Pretty much exactly how I felt about last night.

SunMo

i'm not telling you what to think...just trying to help you understand what your watching on tv

by the way, overreacting nancy, no one has said they are doomed or they suck, or they won't do anything in the season.

we've all pointed out they played like shtein last night and they better fix shtein if they want to make any noise this year
