NCAA dropped punishment on Ohio State:

No post-season play in 2012 (not sure if that includes Big Ten championship)
Probation in 2013
Loss of 9 scholarships over 3 years

Chow is an offensive genius.  Pretty good resume - BYU, NC State, USC, Utah in NCAA and Titans in NFL as OC.  Only concern is that he is 65.  Apparently he has been offered other head coaching jobs in the past - I know of Kentucky for one but he turned them down over assistant coaches pay.  Wants his assistants well taken care of.  He is going to make $600,000 a year for 4 years. 

Rumor is Brad Childress and Mike Martz threw their names in the hat.  Was never going to happen as they have no connection with the state or university.

Most everyone is very happy with the hire.  Waiting for some more news to come out.  Apparently it got ugly and there were some tense moments leading up to the final hour.  Final candidates besides Chow were:

Duane Akina - Texas asst coach, Dirk Koetter - Jacksonville Jags OC, Mark Banker - Oregon State assistant and Brian Norwood - Baylor assistant that people were really high on.  Rich Miano was politicking hard for the job but he's part of the past two regimes.  He was actually the interim head coach the past two weeks.

Chow's coached the following QB's over the past 30 years:

Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Leinart.

these kids are laying it all on the line in front of 15 people on a wednesday night in late december for no other reason than espn needed a night to fill and some random company wanted 3 hours of attention.

go bowl games. they rule.

Pitt is hiring Wisconsin's OC, and Houston is removing the interim tag from the guy coaching against PSU on New Year's, so there are two schools left that don't have a head coach....PSU and zesty ass Akron

That was sad.  When they did the panoramic shot of the stadium and it was basically empty, just terrible.  They need to keep these non January 1, BCS and traditional bowls regional.  Should have been San Diego St. vs. UCLA or Cal.  Ridiculous.

i think it has as much to do with them not caring about the football program anymore than it does no one wanting the job

offer enough money and make the right promises as far as the program goes and they could have easily had someone by now

either way its the worst possible scenario that could have happened

For this year's recruiting class, yes. For the long term, it really doesn't matter much at all.

Chances are whichever coach they hire now will be a 3-4 year band-aid anyway.

Phil Grosz believes they are probably hiring a NFL coach because if it was a college coach the info would have leaked out by now.

If that is the case I would think it is Mike Munchak.
