If he indeed said that, then that pisses me off. When I worked for the Nets, the president wanted to start wearing those red jerseys to drive some merch revenue. We met with the league, they approved and boom - done. Howie 100% has the power to make it happen if he really wanted to.

plus him and smolenski are tighter than bark to a tree and smolenski handles promotion/marketing ect...theres no way these discussions are going down and howie isnt aware of them

its just a public front they have to put up at this point so that when the day comes that they do announce it it will carry the most possible excitement...they also probably dont feel like they should speak publicly about something that the league office has to first approve even if that approval is pretty much a formality

They really are so dumb. They think of all these ways to drive their bottom line - including now possibly charging fans to watch them practice - but they routinely let this opportunity lie dormant. You know what drove revenue? Those 1960 green jerseys they wore to open the '10 season, and that was because it was the closest we had to the Kellys since they were yanked. The amount of jerseys they'd sell would be ridiculous - in a way, I'm surprised that they are refusing to do this seeing how much $$$ they'd all make. Plus, making the switch would make Howie and team heroes in a way that would only be trumped by bringing a Lombardi to town.
