Did anyone ever find out why the Eagles and Pats swapped picks in the 6th? That was weird.

QuoteNEW YORK — It seemed pretty odd at the time, that the Eagles and Patriots swapped pick Nos. 193 and 194 in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. What made the trade a bit more strange was that it was announced about 30 picks ahead of time, near the end of the fourth round.

As the 21st of 22 trades made during this NFL draft, it simply went like this: Eagles get pick No. 193. Patriots get pick 194. That's it.

None of us could figure out who benefited from the trade, or why it was made. But after some digging, the answers are "no one " and "just for fun."

The Patriots and Eagles apparently made this trade just for kicks. The internet rumors that the teams have conducted draft-day trades every year since Bill Belichick arrived in New England in 2000 are far from true. In fact, according to the fine folks with the Patriots, the teams have conducted four trades since the 2000 season and this is their second-ever draft-day trade.

Nonetheless, it still appears this was just for fun. Although, we have to wonder if there's a free dinner involved from Andy Reid to Belichick to grease the wheels to get the Patriots to move down that one spot.

Birds have been getting descent reviews on their draft.  Patriots are getting crucified.  Drafted another TE.  Christ, they've got like 15 as it is.  Guess when you're in the big game 4 out of 7 years you can draft whomever the hell you want.

ice grillin you

guess when you have 7 picks in the first three rounds you can double up on some positions and take what you think are the best players available...if the eagles had two firsts or two seconds this year then taking gordie howe in the first round wouldnt have been a bad pick

btw the pats also have two 1's two 2's and two 3's next year
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

Why is no one talking about Havili? Dude is going to be a stud. Watch...he will score anywhere from 4 to 8 TD's this season....75% catching.

The #1 from the Seymour trade was used this past Saturday.  They have NO's #1 from the Mark Ingram trade and OAK's #2 in a 5-pick deal to get Taiwan Jones and Joseph Barksdale.  Not sure where the #3 is from....?

Glad you brought him up.  He was a beast at SC.  I thought he'd go much higher.
