so anyone with a concussion in the nfl should sit out the rest of the year?

When the idea was to give the guy a real shot at being successful, and the state of the offensive line gets the guy's head mushed in the first game...then what's the point? You're not going to get a proper read on how good/bad the QB is when he's either 1. Running for his life or 2. Seeing stars.

Reid knows Kolb aint gonna get shtein done in this offense this year. And Vick might.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

QuoteAndy Reid: "Michael Vick is playing out of his mind right now"
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 21, 2010 7:31 PM ET
Like so many football junkies, Andy Reid was a huge Michael Vick fan before he ever heard about Bad Newz Kennels.  The thought of coaching Vick reportedly had Reid "salivating" once Vick got out of prison.

That's why Reid pushed the Eagles to sign Vick last offseason.   (Seriously, go back and read this great Philadelphia Inquirer piece on it.)

After watching the Michael Vick Experience 2.0 up close the last two weeks, Reid couldn't bear to put his new toy back on the shelf.

"Michael Vick is playing out of his mind right now, and that's a beautiful thing," Reid said Tuesday during his press conference to announce Vick would be the Eagles starting quarterback indefinitely.

Reid stressed this wasn't a decision about Kevin Kolb's poor first half against the Packers in the season opener.  (Reid also noted Kolb is fully recovered from his concussion now.) It was about Vick's surprising progress the last two weeks, which had Reid drooling.

Reid called Vick "one of the best quarterback right now in the National Football League."  Reid said Vick was "brilliant" and that he's playing at one of the higher levels Reid has seen.

To Reid, this is plain for anyone to see.

"The team saw the great play of Michael Vick -- like you saw and I saw," Reid said.

Reid is right.  Vick has played exceptional football the last two weeks.  He's made difficult throws into tight windows.  He seems to have matured as a decision maker and passer.  The legs are back.  The biggest worry: Vick has always been a streaky quarterback and he's played only six quarters, with four against the Lions.

This wasn't the plan, of course.  If it was, the team wouldn't have handed Kolb a hefty contract extension this offseason.  Reid says the team can still win a Super Bowl with Kolb, and vainly tried to make the case this will help Kolb's maturation.  Reid spoke with Kolb twice over the last two days and a trade is not a consideration.

"[Kevin] wants to be the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles," Reid said.  "But he's also a team player.  He accepted it but I'm not gonna tell you he doesn't want to be the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles."

Reid kept stressing what a great situation it was to have two quality quarterbacks.  But it's clear that Vick is the one that makes Reid giddy.

"Very few quarterbacks can go out and play the way [Vick] played the last few weeks," Reid said. (Like, say, Kevin Kolb?)

The Eagles coach ended the press conference by saying that Vick was "back, and maybe even a little bit better" than before.

Spoken like a true fan.

This gushing can leave little doubt Reid totally wanted Vick to start.

A chilling thought is that if Howie the Talent Guy and Joe Bannaners can actually get Reid fired - which many here want - then you know the only HC they will hire will be a yes man type, so Howie and Joe can be Al Davis ll and call the shots onn the field as well.

Yeah....that thought might be the only one that has me wanting Reid to stick around.

What a joke of a franchise.

What is it? Did they actually believe their own off-season PR hype that going from McNabb to Kolb would not be a downgrade and esp behind this line? Did they really think Kolb would step in and play as well if not better? WTF are they serious? I thought that BS was for the fans?

I can't even make sense of this yet. It is amusing to see IGY and others try to psycho analyze Reid, Banner, Lurie, and our new "GM" to fill in the blanks and try to figure out each others role like its some day time soap opera.

I just want Reid gone. I am at a level with Reid that most of this board is or was at with McNabb. I just want him gone.

So, Retard wants the Eagles to lose and is now rooting for the skins and his boy Donovan.  Got it.

I never wanted them to rebuild. I never thought it was "time" to rebuild to the point that you go to a unproven QB with Reid leading the way. I think i said many times I would be fine with getting rid of McNabb if it meant bringing in an equal or better QB. Not to rebuild.

And since I never thought it was time to rebuild I am at least happy they are playing to win now but I never thought they actually bought into their own hype about Kolb for this upcoming season. I thought letting go of Sheldon and getting even younger all around meant they knew themselves they were rebuilding no matter how many times they told the fans they weren't.

I am all for this move cause Vick is the better QB and I want to win rather than wait and see if Kolb is the guy and then if he fails have them try their luck with Reid and another new QB. How many breaks does he get? But with the way he has handled this mess if Vick does not work out and Kolb is lost for good maybe finally so is Reid. So win win?

Vick is the beter qb now, but don't be surprised to see him come crashing to earth in the next few games. Yes he played well, but he also got away with a lot of shtein he probably won't be so lucky with in upcoming games. Kolb on the other hand shtein the bed, but to my memory he didn't look much worse than Aaron Rogers in the first half, and you have to give more of a chance before you can tell anything. It all comes down to try to win now or take a rebuilding approach. I do agree Vick is a lot more fun to watch though, even if he is dumb as sack of bricks.

Quote* Reid does his analysis and evaluation on Sunday night/Monday morning after Sunday games. If he felt like Vick was playing "out of his mind" and could be the difference between winning five games and the Super Bowl, why did he insist Monday afternoon that Kolb was still his man? With his evaluations already done, what changed afterward?

I don't remember the press conference word for word, so I'm just going off what SalPal said, but according to him the words "Kolb is my QB" on Monday because a question about that was never really asked. And the only time he was asked something close to it (something about how can you take Vick off the field when he's playing so well), all Reid said was "I'm not going to get into that, I'm not going to justify one guy over the other."

i think they know full well what they are doing and everyone else is over analyzing the decision. FO and Reid of course know that kobb will play at some point in the season as a starter and they'll get to see what they have. No real hurry, right? O-line theory is bullshtein and we all know it.

Vicks got the hot hand and like craps you shoot till you miss your number. Kobbsy and his corn pone down-home in cowpie land will have to wait a little while longer to see if he can play or if he's the steaming pile of twisty spirally dog turds he showed to be all preseason. Right now its Vick and if he's hot now, who knows maybe they can trade him before the deadline for some fricking o linemen or some shtein and get some real value for all they put on the pass-line for his sorry ass..

tension and jostling in the FO? Of course - there's always a palace coup fomenting in any autocratic hierarchy. But its pretty simple even for those of us here with one chromosome too many - play Vick until he craps out - and he probably will,  and then all the wailing "but-cobb-is-my-teams-future-and-he-only-sucked-a-half" hand-wringers will get to see what east texas is really made of. Seriously - there's plenty of games to see if his ass is worth optioning next year - if there is a next year

putting kolb in back of those lumbering fat ass losers would be suicide.

He'd stand a better chance surviving crashing a Japanese Zero onto the deck of an allied aircraft carrier than he would lining up behind that swinging gate.

So what if this team wins more games with Vick? They still will fall on their faces if they get lucky enough to make the playoffs. I'll admit with the way this division looks, it could happen, but in the playoffs they will get killed.

As many times as this team has been to the playoffs and the championship game, a Superbowl win is the only thing that should be acceptable to this franchise, and that's the way they should  approach every season. To me, this season that means playing Kolb and if he isn't the answer you move on. The Eagles aren't winning the Superbowl with Vick, and him starting now only prolongs the rebuilding process.
