I've had Nextel, AT&T and T-Mobile in the past and have had Verizon for the past 2 years. I can 10000% tell you that T-Mobile is exponentially worse than anything else out there. I called and complained so much about my service that I was let out of my contract - without penalty - only about 6 months into a 2 year contract. They finally understood how bad my service was when my phone would cut out while on the line with their support team. AT&T is also pretty putrid. My Verizon plan is up next week but their service has been so damn good that I won't even consider the iPhone and AT&T and I love the farging thing. A bunch of my buddies have them and they're fun as shtein. But service > cool phone and Verizon has them all beat in that department.

Verizon last i saw was close to a deal with Apple, but the droid is holding me over for the next 2 years

I ask the stupid service people everytime I walk into Verizon when they are getting the iPhone. I had a manager tell me last week that they're not getting it and to not buy into anything I read. Just an FWIW.

if the rumors of sprint possibly getting iphone come true, i'm so gone

Indeed it is somewhat plausible...

i think i read something recently about apple and at&t reaching a new deal on their "exclusive" contract.

If by "recently" you mean in the last few years, then yes.

apparently i was mistaken then.  was probably something ipad related and referring to how the 3G versions will only be available from at&t.

I must be the only one who doesn't have any problems with AT&T. Yet all the people I know who use Verizon, even my friend who worked for them for a year or so, bitches about the service.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

i've got minimal complaints but it's nothing that's going to get noticably better if i switch providers.  obviously with cell phones, you're going to drop calls and you're going to the occasional dead zone where your phone just doesn't want to work regardless of service provider or phone manufacturer and that's pretty much where i'm at with at&t.  since switching over from sprint though, i can say without a doubt that my service has been much improved.
