I agree, it's not clear what the union can do even if that's what the Eagles were doing. And it's far from obvious that's what they were up to, since they kept Calvin.

It's unclear to me why there even is a rookie salary pool when there is no salary cap, which is what the rookie salary pool is part of.

Yeah, I would get it if they cut Calvin.  Instead, they took a player they knew they wouldn't keep and traded him for a player that made the 53 man roster.

Even if they cut Calvin, they were giving two players a chance to stick who otherwise would not have.  And if the genius NFL contract forgot to account for pre-season trades when making this one-time rule, then farg 'em.
