goddamn i love when statys use "luck" in their analysis

how else do you explain someone who has been productive with risp over thier career all of a sudden sucking? contract year gone to his head?

he can obviously still hit. its just for whatever reasons hes not doing in the most important of situations.

take ibanez:
before 09 he was consistently over .300 with risp
in 09 he hit .233, .355, .806
this year hes hitting .300 with a .411 obp and .927 ops

what happened in 09? any explanation for that? he was as bad in the second half 09 as he was in the first half of this year...but the numbers are much different. why? any reason?

and DO NOT call my a staty. using obp and ops to prove a point is not like using vorp and uzr and whatever other nerd stats are out there.

OPS is the most important stat in baseball when in comes to position players who are supposed to hit for power.  He's right that it shouldn't be considered in the same category as WARP/VORP etc etc.

Werth has been useless with RISP this year.  It has to be mental at this point.
