This proved to be a great signing. They only did it to make everyone think there was no way they would swoop in and draft a safety early. This enabled them to get Nate Allen without anyone leapfrogging them in the draft.

Now that they have Allen, Marlin was just collateral damage and was expendable.

Good point.  In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles FO tore his Achilles on purpose.
