QuoteVick admits to "small fracture" in his ribs

Posted by Mike Florio on October 4, 2010 11:36 PM ET

X-rays were negative, but an MRI apparently found something that previously wasn't disclosed on Monday.

In an appearance on Bruce Smith's radio show on WXTG radio, Vick admitted that he has a fracture in his rib cage.

"There is some cartilage damage up in there and a small fracture up in there, so maybe a week, maybe two weeks," Vick said of his potential absence.  "We'll have to see.  I've got some cartilage damage up in there, in the upper area of my ribs.  I just have to work through it.  I've always been a quick healer.  It won't be no more than one, two weeks hopefully.  Hopefully."

The primary treatment?  Nothing.

"The most important thing is just rest," Vick said.  "There is really nothing you can do for a rib injury, especially in the upper part of your rib cage.  I'll get rest, I've got a Hyperbaric machine and I'll be spending a lot of time in that trying to restore my blood cells.  I'll stay in the treatment room, getting ice for it and just trying to get movement."

Vick is expected to miss Sunday night's game against the 49ers.  The following week, the Eagles host Vick's former team, the Falcon

We are most definitely going to see Mike Kafka Jeff Garcia this season.

I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

We already saw, if I'm not mistaken, Duce Staley on the sidelines...so...Jeff Garthia wouldn't be out of the question.

I'm sure that Vick is trying to show some confidence and he really wants to get out on the field vs Atlanta, but at the same time, a comment like that really makes you wonder just how "rededicated" he is to the game.  All the articles and interviews over the last month talking about how he takes the game seriously now and how seriously he takes the responsibility of being the quarterback and leader, blah blah blah but comments like that don't exactly support his claim.

"I don't need practice."

There isn't much to read into there as it's not a vague statement.  But, I'm going to stick with him just really wanting to be on the field this week and chalk that one up another another stupid thing to come out of another stupid athlete's mouth.  Hopefully that's all it is.

SunMo

he's saying he can play without having to practice this week, and you're really using that to question his dedication?  wow.

Sgt PSN

No, I'm saying anyone could use that to question his dedication.  What part of "I'm going to stick with him just really wanting to be on the field this week " don't you understand?

SunMo

probably the part where you said "a comment like that really makes you wonder just how "rededicated" he is to the game"
