Today's result brings to mind one reason I thing soccer is great, and why most Americans can't get it:

a draw is meaningful.

the nuance of a result that does not present a black or white, win or lose, is something that Americans simply cannot accept in a fundamental way.

our friend vigy serves as the typical American in this case:  everything for him is either top ten or worst ever.  if you don't win, you are a piece of shtein loser, etc.

uhm..yeah.  in Disneyland that may be the case, but not in life.

Like I wrote in the other thread...US just increased their chances of advancing to the next stage by 1000. It was going to be a tough hill to climb with a loss still having to face a top ranked team in Slovenia.

Nice job by the gringos.

Don Ho

Who was that dude that ended up being killed in 1994 after he scored the own goal to allow the US to beat Colombia?
"Well where does Jack Lord live, or Don Ho?  That's got to be a nice neighborhood"  Jack Singer(Nicholas Cage) in Honeymoon in Vegas.

Diomedes

Some farging Columbian, I forget his name.  That had more to do with drug cartels than with soccer, iirc.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
