Philadelphia Eagles: A-

Despite the presence of dynamic playmakers Brian Westbrook and DeSean Jackson, the Eagles clearly made adding weapons a focus on draft day. It could pay off beautifully with Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, Cornelius Ingram and Brandon Gibson all capable of being NFL standouts. The trade for left tackle Jason Peters earlier in the week makes Philadelphia's draft as impressive as any -- though the Eagles had an early advantage having entered the process with two first-round picks because due to a trade with Carolina last year.

Philadelphia Eagles: GRADE: B-

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was a good pick, but he needs to work on his route running to be a consistent threat in the NFL. Running back LeSean McCoy was a good selection in the second round and so was tight end Cornelius Ingram in the fifth round. The fifth round was a good round for the Eagles, who also picked up cornerback Victor Harris and offensive tackle Fenuki Tupou.

GRADE: A

• Philadelphia Eagles: Traded a No. 1 previously to Buffalo for Pro Bowl LT Jason Peters. Traded up to get WR Jeremy Maclin, who may become the weapon so often deemed lacking from this offense. First time the Eagles used a No. 1 pick since 2006. RB LeSean McCoy is much like Brian Westbrook in style and should adapt quickly to the Eagles Offense. CB Victor "Macho" Harris, taken in the fifth round, could have gone higher and ought to fit well in Philly's aggressive scheme. Got CB Ellis Hobbs from New England for two No. 5 picks. Wow.

Philadelphia Eagles

Picks: WR Jeremy Maclin, RB LeSean McCoy, TE Cornelius Ingram, CB Victor Harris, OT Fenuki Tupou, WR Brandon Gibson, G Paul Fanaika

Positive: Offensive skill position additions.

Negative: Only two picks in the top 150.

Bottom line: B-.

Maclin should be another instant impact guy, like DeSean Jackson was last season. McCoy doesn't have elite speed, but he can make defenders miss and could develop into an NFL starter. Ingram will be a liability in run-blocking. After Maclin and McCoy, there may not be many future starters.

When rating this draft, start by remembering the Eagles used a first-round pick for Buffalo offensive tackle Jason Peters, who has Pro Bowl talent. Peters will team with ex-Bengal Stacy Andrews to give Donovan McNabb two new protectors on the outside. Then, the Eagles lucked into Missouri receiver Jeremy Maclin, who was rated No. 1 at his position on 18 teams' draft boards. Then in the second round, Pitt running back LeSean McCoy was another steal with 53rd overall pick. McCoy will give Brian Westbrook a breather this season.

Virginia Tech cornerback Victor Harris has only 4.6 speed, but he should be a core special-teams player. Harris did have 15 interceptions. You have to like the trade with New England in order to land cornerback Ellis Hobbs, who gives the Eagles some added depth in case they ever deal unhappy starter Sheldon Brown. Florida TE Cornelius Ingram could be a steal if his knee is OK. Grade: A

Philadelphia Eagles: A

Their offense has become more dangerous. Jeremy Maclin is a threat as a receiver and a returner. Running back LeSean McCoy can make people miss and can catch the football. Tight end Cornelius Ingram fits their system as a receiver. And they traded Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters before the draft.

Philadelphia Eagles

Best pick: RB LeSean McCoy, Pittsburgh (Second round, No. 53 overall)

Worst pick: OT Fenuki Tupou, Oregon (Fifth round, No. 159 overall)

Bottom line: On paper, the Eagles appear to have one of best classes of 2009. Granted, Jeremy Maclin has a lot of developing to do as a route-runner, but his RAC skills project perfectly in Philadelphia's West Coast offense and should be able to at least help as a No. 3 wideout and return man this year. McCoy is the best pass-catching back in this draft and should pay dividends by initially taking the load off Brian Westbrook. Long term, he should develop into the full-time starter two or three years down the road. TE Cornelius Ingram was a steal in the fifth round as was WR Brandon Gibson in the sixth.

Philadelphia. Now, no one knows if Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy are going to be players. But getting them at 19 and 53, respectively, constitutes the best value picking of any team on day one of the draft, as happened last year with DeSean Jackson in the middle of Round 2.

Based on consensus perceived value and need, I think it would be hard to give the Eagles anything less than an A for the weekend. Based on actual production, it would be impossible to give anything other than an incomplete.

I would give them a solid A just because of the additions of Hobbs and Peters.  Without that I give them a B+.

I'd probably give them a solid B or B+ on the draft, but an A- if you count the trades for Peters and Hobbs among their picks.

I wasn't wild about drafting Maclin, mainly because I didn't think wideout should be a priority for this team. But given how early Moreno went he was probably a great value. Maclin was supposed to go in the Top 10 and he can immediately contribute as a punt returner.

I think McCoy is a perfect fit and an absolute STEAL in the 2nd. I very much like Cornelius Ingram in the 5th but it would be nice to have a TE who has once thrown a block. Macho Harris was a nice pickup, too.

I'd have raised the Eagles draft a half grade if they used one of those wasted late picks on Rashad Jennings or Kory Sheets. They really didn't need another wideboy for training camp.

Overall I'm pleasantly surprised. The Eagles improved themselves as much as any team in football this offseason.

It's impossible to grade a draft before the players even make the NFL. The Eagles grade could go from an A to a C- in three years, real quick. It looks good now, and I'm excited as usual. But there is still that lingreing doubt deep down in the core of my being. Thats what being an Eagle fan feels like.

The BIGSTUD

With what was available and what the Eagles did, it is hard to think of how they could have done better. Unless someone really was a huge Pettigrew fan and was pissed about the Maclin pick. I personally liked Pettigrew, but didn't love him. He's not going to be Witten caliber or Gates caliber. He's just not that good as a receiver to as much of a weapon as they are. He'll be a nice TE in the NFL, but Maclin will be the better player.

They got positions of need and at the same time, great value with the picks. Throw in Peters and Hobbs and they have to get an A grade.

You can give grades based on projections, they of course mean all of nothing.  It is purely for fun.

Based on our analysis, the winners in each division this year were the Cleveland Browns in the AFC and the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC.
Philadelphia Eagles — Andy Reid and GM Tom Heckert sacrificed the selection of OT Jeff Otah last year, trading the pick to Carolina for an additional first-rounder this year that they were able to use, along with a third-rounder, to acquire OLT Jason Peters from Buffalo. They also made a shrewd deal with the Patriots to acquire CB Ellis Hobbs for two fifth-round picks, coming away from this draft with two established veterans. Most impressive, however, was how they continued to work trades to upgrade the offense, adding a multipurpose playmaker in Jeremy Maclin and a change-of-pace back, LeSean McCoy, both of whom possess starter potential. Cornelius Ingram could turn out to be a steal in the fifth round when he recovers fully from a torn ACL, and CB Victor "Macho" Harris should find a role in sub packages. Overall, no team came away with as much proven talent as the Eagles did in this draft.
Grade: Outstanding

i can't take that seriously when they refer to each conference as divisions.  i also can't take any draft evaluation seriously that doesn't openly mock dallas and oakland
