QuoteOverview
With all of the attention heaped upon LSU's Glenn Dorsey and Southern California's Sedrick Ellis, some might be surprised to note Laws is by far and away the most productive defensive tackle eligible for the draft. Utilizing a quick burst, impressive hand technique and a non-stop motor, Laws' team-leading 112 tackles ranks only one behind Steve Niehaus as the most in Irish history from a defensive lineman. A strong performance at the Senior Bowl proved Laws wasn't a product of a leaky Notre Dame defense, but a standout despite it.

Analysis
Positives: Short, squatty, powerful build ... Good initial quickness off the snap to generate an instant advantage on his opponent ... Quick, strong hands to disengage from defenders ... Showed significant improvement in this area as a senior ... Good burst when he clears the line to close on the ballcarrier ... Most impressive attribute is his non-stop motor ... Simply doesn't quit on a play ... Laterally and down-the-field, there may not be a defensive lineman in the country who pursues as passionately or effectively ... Strong performance throughout the week of practice and the Senior Bowl boosted stock considerably.

Negatives: Lacks preferred size inside ... Marginal strength to anchor despite his natural leverage advantage ... Best suited to a three technique position in the 4-3 alignment and may be limited to only that role.

We're half way to building an all Notre-Dame front four.

I think in early '07 Mel Kiper predicted the Eagles would trade down out of the first round and pick up a DL from ND for each of the next two years.  He's good.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I like it.
QuoteLacks preferred size inside

He's still over 300. A lot is said about his quickness, I'm wondering if he might line up at DE?

QuoteLaws was also invited to play in U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio but declined because of a wrestling commitment. He finished 49-0 as a state champion super-heavyweight wrestler as a junior and was ranked as the No. 1 high school wrestler in the nation. He finished his wrestling career as a three-time All-American with a record of 142-5 and helped his wrestling team win the state title as a sophomore, junior and senior.

47. Philadelphia Eagles

The pick: Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame
What he brings: Laws lacks prototypical size for an interior run-stuffer and doesn't have the burst to consistently get to the quarterback at the professional level. But he reminds us of the Energizer Bunny. He works from the snap until the whistle on every play. Also, he plays with excellent leverage and is strong for his size -- he's much more stout than you would think looking at his measurables.

How he fits: Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson loves to stockpile defensive tackles and Laws will be part of the rotation with LaJuan Ramsey and Montae Reagor. The surprising thing is that DTs Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley had good years last year, which allowed DE Trent Cole to dominate outside. This was not a serious need for Philadelphia, but it works within the Eagles' philosophy.

Unless one of those 5 losses is an NFL guard now. Then he's farged.
