Goodell - zero tolerance, or zero credibility?

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Tuesday there was nothing new in videotapes he received showing the Patriots taping opposing teams' signals and that no additional penalty against New England was being considered.

"I don't anticipate any further sanctions," Goodell told a news conference after meeting Walsh on what has been dubbed 'Spygate'. "What we heard and saw was fundamentally consistent with what we already knew."

Consistent with what we already knew = videotaping is cheating, so what if now we know it went on for years and years instead of one isolated incident.  Same thing, as far as I'm concerned with my genius coach and team of the decade.

Hold on, NFL. Spygate isn't over.

Sen. Arlen Specter on Wednesday called for an independent investigation of the New England Patriots' taping of opposing coaches' signals, possibly similar to the high-profile Mitchell Report on performance enhancing drugs in baseball.

"What is necessary is an objective investigation," Specter said at a news conference in the Capitol. "And this one has not been objective."

Half of me says "Good", while the other half says "Enough already.  Let's play football."

Owners may opt out of CBA

One management source called it a "high likelihood" that the owners will exercise their option to terminate the agreement, which will trigger a number of alternatives, including a potential work stoppage by 2011. Another source said "be prepared" for the action, although it was "not a 100 percent proposition yet."

An NFL Players Association source said, "We expect it to happen."

However, by opting out of the agreement that was struck on March 9, 2006, the NFL would play 2010 without a salary cap, unrestricted free agency for players would be increased from four years to six years and the orderly selection of college players in the annual draft would not exist after 2011. These "poison pills" are designed to motivate both the owners and the union to work toward a new collective bargaining agreement.

You know Danny Boy would love to have even just one season without a cap.  Not that the cap affects him anyway but it would save him and his cronies a lot of work trying to figure out ways around it. 

Not sure what is meant by the draft comment though.  Are they saying that teams would not recieve their draft picks based on the standings from the year prior?  How would they determine where a team picks?

You know damn right well that the Eagles would shtein their pants without a cap, but they're also prepared for it to happen.  I shudder to think what would happen to ticket prices if that happened, and there was a prolonged period of skyrocketing player costs, though.  Good God.

The Eagles never come close to the cap limit as it is.  Not having one wouldn't make a bit of difference imo.
