QuoteFASSEL THOUGHT HE WAS THE FRONTRUNNER

The media and the fans weren't the only ones who believed that Jim Fassel had the inside track to the head-coaching gig in D.C.

Fassel himself believed it, too.

In a Monday afternoon interview with Mike and the Mad Dog on WFAN, Fassel said that he thought he was the frontrunner for the job that went to Zorn.

Fassel also confirmed that he had a role in the hiring of the guy who got the job he wanted.  He said that he gave owner Dan Snyder three persons for each of the coordinator positions, and that Zorn was the top name on the offensive side of the ball.

Indeed, Fassel said he was involved in all of the staff moves, which implies that he had a voice in the firing of Al Saunders and Gregg Williams, too.

As to the notion that Fassel was bumped due to concerns of widespread criticism from taterskins fans if he got the gig, Fassel said, "That would really, really hurt me.  You can't let your fans control any of that."

Fassel also said that he shouldn't have taken a job with the Ravens after being fired by the Giants.  "My biggest mistake was going to Baltimore," he said, calling the situation there "such a mess."

Again, Fassel's candor is refreshing.  But we think it will hurt him, not help him, as he tries to look for new work.

For example, his strong words about the Ravens won't persuade guys like owner Steve Bisciotti or G.M. Ozzie Newsome or former coach Brian Billick to explain, "Jim did a great job for us; he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."  Instead, they're likely to say, "Our biggest mistake was hiring Fassel."

Moreover, Fassel's inability to realize that he shouldn't be running his mouth about his disappointments with the 'Skins and the Ravens raises legitimate questions about his ability to control his tongue if/when he's ever a head coach again.  Let's face it, if he doesn't realize that it would be prudent to be discreet when it comes to dissing two of the 30 branches of tree that he'd like to inhabit again, how can he be trusted to say the right things -- and not say the wrong things -- as the face of a franchise?

the article is trying to make it sound different than how i heard it.

i think i heard the whole interview and while he did say "baltimore was the biggest mistake of my coaching career" he went out of his way to compliment snyder, zorn, and even the giants. he said tom coughlin said some things when he was hired that hurt him but he got over it. he said "in this league you have to get over these things really fast".

said he couldnt fault snyder for hiring who he wants esp if they did it for the right reason.

QuoteI am really really excited about this move.  I'm honestly having a hard time containing my excitement.  I've been smiling nonstop ever since I heard the news and I've been getting a lot of strange looks from people all morning.  I've got a little pep in my step and I'm walking around with my head held high and looking everyone in the eye as I pass them and smiling and greeting them with an emphatic "GOOD MORNING!"  All my Chiefs friends have been kind of poking fun at me for the last couple of weeks because they all thought it's been a disaster they way that Mr Snyder has handled things and I took they're ribbing gracefully knowing all too well that eventually I'd get my chance to give it back to them once Mr Snyder completed his timely and throrogh search for the future coach of the Washington taterskins.  And boy was I right.  My friends have been pretty quiet so far today.  In fact they haven't even brought it up yet because I think they feel like if they don't say anything that I'll forget about the all the fun they were poking at me.  But I haven't forgotten.  I'm just waiting for the right time to get them back.

I can't wait to see Coach running mini camps and practices and getting this team fired up for the first of what I'm certain will be many many  many succesful seasons.  I don't know about you guys but I'm feeling a little ZORNY baby!  Yeeeaaaaahhhhhh!

(fyi, I took the whole zorny thing from Austin Powers.  Instead of horny, I'm ZORNY baby!  Tehehehehe)

Jesus christ. Did he say teheheh?

I see AssToMouth lurking too.

Welcome back icehole, good to see you around since the Skins took one in the groin in the playoffs.

Oh how I wish hahafunnyhaha was around to spread his love these days.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Washington Post:

QuoteNumerous league sources, including some with direct knowledge of conversations between Snyder, Cerrato and recent head coaching candidates, have affirmed that the taterskins have interest in trading for Cincinnati wide receiver Chad Johnson, with two league sources saying Johnson is eager to land a hefty new contract from Washington.

Acquiring an elite receiver is Snyder's top priority, league sources said. The Bengals have said they have no intention of trading Johnson, but his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is working quietly to broker a deal, the sources said.

PhillyPhreak54

Wouldn't that be a bitch.

I would assume that Santana Moss or Randle-El would have to go to Cincy in that deal.

But still that would suck.

PhillyPhreak54

From that same article;

They expect to pursue Lance Briggs again (another Rosenhaus client; hell they should just sign all of Drew's guys) because Chicago doesn't really want him back. He'd take over WIL from McIntosh who is still recovering from knee surgery and has degenerative knees.

James Thrash is expected to not be brought back

Rock Cartwright is not expected to be re-signed either. They will then use Ladell Betts at the full time KOR.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cartwright end up in an Eagles uniform. He's a feisty little farger and someone this STs units sorely need.

isn't washington like $20 million over the cap already?

Well, so I guess you guys won. The taterskins are dead, literally and figuratively. Gibbs retired (or was fired). Their fargface owner has recommenced destroying the team by playing his fantasy football again. I was actually going to be through being a taterskins fan whenever Gibbs left anyhow, but my emotional divorce from the team allows me to to put everything Snyder has done, and is surely doing, in perspective. In hindsight I think it's remarkable what Gibbs was able to achieve in the disfunctional ownership and managerial environment he was in. Not that I care but I think the taterskins are going suck ass next season and probably for the foreseable future. I'm not sure if I'll be a fan again when in X years fargface is no longer the owner. Probably not.

I have to admit there are a lot of Right Wing dicks on ES too. A hypocritical moderator banned me a couple weeks ago. My new goal might be to get myself banned from this site next. Are there many fascists here?

phillymic2000

Fargin bandwagon fan, you should ban yourself from here.

Eagaholic

Why don't you become a Giants fan? They're pretty good.
