I work with two girls who are good friends. They decided to hang out last Saturday. Both girls have dogs. We'll just call them girl P and girl R. Girl P had Girl R come to her house so they could go hang out. Girl R decided to bring her 15 lbs. dog. Girl P has 2 dogs, one boston terrier and one mutt who has a bit of Pit in him. Girl P didn't know Girl R was bringing her dog. So they decided to leave Girl R's dog in the house while Girl P's dogs roamed the yard. Girl P's husband came home and was unaware there was a strange dog in his house. So he let Girl R's dog out back with the other two dogs. The mutt who is mixed with Pit attacked Girl R's dog. The dog had some damage and was bleeding. So he tried to wash the wounds and called his wife (Girl P).

Girl R has a real emotional connection to her dog. She doesn't have kids or a husband. She swears her dog is just as important as a child. So they take her dog to Veterinarian who says to take the dog to a hospital. The dog seemed fine up to this point aside from some wounds. Girl R has them put the dog under anthestesia so they can stitch the dog up. The dog was somewhat fine before it went under anthestesia. Now it's all farged up, it has neurological damage and is on life support at UPenn. Girl P originally said I'll split the cost of the Vet bill when it was just anthestesia and stitches, which in total was going to cost around $1000. But now the dog is on life support and the Vet bill is around $5000. Girl R has missed the entire week of work. Today they were passing around a sympathy card to sign.

Whose fault is it and who should pay?

Sounds like they should sue the shtein out of the initial vet that treated the dog to me.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Interesting situation...

Did girl P know girl R have two dogs?

Girl P should have asked "hey is it cool if I bring over my dog and leave it there while we go out?"

Regardless if R had dogs or not P needs to ask. But especially if she knew she had two dogs.

Girl R should have notified her husband to make sure they did not get mixed together.

They shared responsibility up until Girl P decided to extend the treatment beyond the normal vet visit. The additional shtein sounds like she needs to go after the vet for making the dog get worse.

And missing a week of work? People passing a sympathy card around?! That's nuts.

ice grillin you

everyone involved should donate to a cause whose ultimate goal is to rid the planet of the pitt bull breed

in this specific scenario girl P should pay for everything for owning a pit mix.....nothing ends well with those monsters

Yes she knew, they're good friends.

No she didn't mention bringing her dog over.

Girl P knows she farged up not notifying her husband there was a different dog in the house.

The missing a week of work and the sympathy card are the kicker. I used to talk to Girl R in the interest of dating her. God damn if I'm glad I passed that shtein up. She looks like Kristin Kreuk from Smallville but she's got issues.

LOL...

They shared  the blame, the vet farging up is a whole thing on its own, but the costs should be on Girl R as she's the one who wanted the dog to go under.

As far as a week off, Jesus.  I drove my dog to the vet, had him put down, and had to work for the next 14 hours on a huge report for work.

I took off a day from work after I put my dog of 18 years down. I was upset for more than a few weeks but I could still work.

They're all idiots, including the husband.

1. You don't bring your dog to someone's house without giving them a heads up.

2. You don't leave a strange dog unattended in your house and not alert anyone else who lives with you.

3. Who the hell walks into their house, sees a strange dog and doesn't immediately call their spouse/roommate and find out why there's a strange dog in the house?

4. Who the hell just lets a strange dog into their yard with 2 other dogs who have already "claimed" the property as their own?  Don't care if it's a Pit or a Lab. Dogs can be very territorial and don't take kindly to strange dogs roaming their turf.

5. Sympathy card would be fine if the dog were dead, but it's not (yet). It's like 2 bucks worth of cardboard and some signatures. A week off of work is ridiculous, but who am I to criticize how someone wants to spend their vacation days?

holy shtein, I just talked to Girl P. It's costing 3k a day to keep the dog alive on life support. They're taking donations at work for a gift card for Girl R.

PhillyPhreak54

$3k a day?!?!?!?!?!

Jesus Christ.

Our first golden retriever had the bright idea of eating 2lbs or more of burger grease covered sand, and that required a pumping and roughly $2400 for an overnight stay.  Wife and I had that uncomfortable conversation of setting a dollar amount for his demise.  He ended up being fine, and other than me making fun of him for the next two years, all was well.  Once he got cancer we made the decision to not pursue chemo and radiation because it was 10k just to maybe see him last one more year.

I had a buddy who racked up a 15k vet bill at UPenn for his dog who ate a tennisball.  Just didnt seem like a smart bill to take on.
