In most cases yes. If you get a German Pilsner, they are a slightly bitter, hearty flavor, Becks and St. Pauli Girl are examples. There are some very good Czech pilsners like Pilsner Urquell that are pretty smooth. More character than just about any American mass produced Pilsner, but just as smooth.

Pilsner
Miller Lite
Bud
Coors

Back in his heavy drinking days, James Hetfield, vocalist and guitarist for heavy metal band Metallica, was known to consume large amounts of Coors light beer.  FAG

theres pilseners lagers stouts ect...

what category does normal every day beers fall under

like a bud or bud light miller coors pbr schlitz ect...

Mostly brewed as a Beer. (Yeungling has, Lager, and Beer...Sam Adams has Boston Lager (the normal) and Boston Ale...)

Malt Liquor is it's own category. Depending on where you look, generally these are the categories (there are slight difference in aging, ingrediants, and temperatures in the brewing)

Beer (Coors, Bud ect...)
Lager
Ale
Pilsner
Stoudt
Malt Liquor
Barley Wine

Each one has an infinate number of sub-categories (India Pal Ale, Cream Ale, Mild Stoudt, etc...) but it generally breaks down that way first.

Alcohol content? or Color (generally)?

Content:
Beer/ (aka)Pilsner
Stoudt
Lager
Ale
Porter
Malt Liquor
Barley Wine

Color:
Beer/ML/Pilsner
Ale
Lager
Porter
Stoudt
Barley Wine

Those are just generalities...there are many exceptions to both lists. But if you were just straight brewing out of a recipe book, that's what you would come up with.

i kinda meant in color and taste as generally the darker the beer the worse it tastes to me...yuengling is prety much as heavy as i can drink

i did not know that a pilsner was 'heavier' than an ale (or a lager for that matter)

doesnt miller advertise a couple of their brands (lite and high life i think) as pilsners?

Some Pilsners could be stronger or heavier than most...its all can vary, theres no set stone way of how a lager looks and tastes or an ale...etc....the mircobeers like to add some unique things to distinguish themselves from everyone else.

right but even the heaviest pilsner isnt going to be heavier than a stout porter or lager is it?

thanks dookies

now perhaps i can venture out a little bit in the beer world...so long as a beer labels itself pilsner theres a decent chance i wont hate it

mostly true for the Stoudt or the Porter. But a lager can vary.

Is anyone shocked that IGY doesn't like his beer like his women - dark & frothy?
