I'm doing the 3 disc plan until I get caught up. As mentioned earlier (but I'll reiterate) the first 5 to 6 episodes is mostly the setup for the show. Last two episodes are really well done. I'm in the middle of season 2 right now and its just as good if not better than season 1 (so far).

Done with season 2, not quite as good as the first season but still enjoyable. I noticed 2 was in 2003 and 4 was in 2006, so I guess they took a year off? BBonline is saying its a long wait for season 3 so I might take my chances going into the store. Anyone know when season 4 is due out on DVD and when does season 5 start?

edit: just checked my queue and season 3 is in the mail

MDS

season 4 dvd should be out a lil before season 5, so like thanksgving/christmas time

Bunk sums it up

QuoteI think the Emmy voters are all about voting for their show and not others.  I just think what those kids did last season was some of the best acting and writing I've ever seen.  We're not in Hollywood and there's also the politics of competition.  I think the Emmy voter says, "Boy, that was a great episode of "The Wire," now let me vote for "House." Then the racial makeup of the show proves that actors of color are not given the same credence.  They look at characters like Omar, and they don't see the humanity.  I tell poeple that this issue is at the core of whether or not we are going to grow as a society.  It's not overt racism, but the fact that you can look at a character like Omar, make a passing judgment, and not see his humanity is sad.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Belzer character Munches more scenery

Richard Belzer made a little TV history when he filmed an episode of HBO's The Wire as Detective John Munch. His guest appearance on the gritty drama marks the 10th series to include the Munch character, who was created for NBC's Homicide: Life on the Street in 1993, and reunites him with David Simon, who is behind both series. Munch, the wisecracking, oft-married curmudgeon, was "transferred" to NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and has appeared on the original Law & Order and Law & Order: Trial By Jury, as well as episodes of The Simpsons, Arrested Development, The Beat, The X-Files and even Sesame Street. Belzer will be back as Munch on  SVU's ninth season this fall. The Wire returns for Season 5 in early 2008.

i actually hope its just a cameo and hes playing himself...like hes gonna be richard belzer from the show homocide...not the character munch

to me the best thing about the wire is that it plays like a documentary with the unknown cast being seemingly real people from baltimore....to introduce a well known pop culture fictional character plays against everything the wire is about imo..and frankly doesnt seem like a simonesque move

i think since Simon seems to be boys with Belzer and Belzer may have approached Simon thats the reason.  Either way Belzer/Munch never take over scenes on any shows i've seen.  He's a very good secondary or further character.
