season 1 was really good.  just started season 2 & it's just okay so far.  theme song got worse...and i don't really care about anything going on at the docks.  hopefully it gets better.

somebody dies.

Had the same thoughts the first few episodes of season 2. It gets much better and is without a doubt the most underrated season of the Wire. Knowing you hunt you'll love Ziggy.

no doubt hunt will have a ziggy avatar soon enough.

Season 2 came off weak after the 1st watch. 2nd time through I had a much greater appreciation for what was going on and it's on par with the entire series.

Season 2 is probably my favorite of the series. Not really sure why. Seasons 3 and 4 might be a little better but for some reason I'm always liking 2

four is retarded but two is def the second best imo

Season two was a ballsy move.  Simon was daring his audience to stick with him by shifting--or seeming to shift--away from the the story that carried the first season.  From the ghetto to the docks risked turning off a lot of viewers, and it probably did, initially.  Folks who stuck were rewarded mightily.  It's a fantastic season.

By the time it's over, you get that Simon et al. are telling a bigger story and each of these seasons is as much a part of the story as any other, just as relevant, etc.

Pretty much.  I didn't see a single episode when the show was broadcasting but ended up doing a marathon and watching all 5 seasons in about 2 weeks. Then I watched the whole thing again, but at a slower pace.

2nd time through the series, season 2 by far had more "blank spots" than any other season.....like there would be 10-15 minute stretches that were completely foreign to me  I assume that's because I was kind of tuning it out because it was so different from season 1, but holy shtein that season was phenomenal the 2nd time through.

Yep - it was him telling his story and he was gonna do it his way. I enjoyed s2 quite a bit.
