The Wire on re-watch is kind of better than the 1st time through. Sure, the suspense factor is gone because you know how it plays out, but there are so many subtleties that you pick up going through again that you'd never notice the 1st time.

Example:  In S1, like near the very beginning, a bunch of the cops are in the office talking about what duty they would hate. McNulty says boat duty.  Was something that I didn't catch the 1st time. It probably just seemed like unimportant filler dialog that wasn't worth retaining. 2nd time I watched I got a nice chuckle out of it.

There's a million little things like that that make it worth rewatching. I've seen it 3x total and I always pick up some new little detail or connection here and there.

One thing I paid more attention to when I rewatched it was the brilliant sound design on the series. Stuff like Brianna's clattering jewelry or the ice in Stringer's drinks... when they choose to play sirens or train sounds. No one's gonna pay a whole lot of attention to those things on a first watch but everything there was done intentionally.

Sgt PSN

Yup. It's all the subtleties that allow it to hold up so well.  That's what really separates it from just about any other show, imo.

thats about as blatant an example there is of what you are correctly talking about...i mean the boat stuff all happens in the same season...its pretty hard to miss the first time around a fairly long conversation that ends up with landsman waving cash and betting mcnutty ends up on the boat and then the last scene of the season has him on the boat....

theres other really crazy hidden shtein that is separated by multiple seasons that took me numerous re watches to get
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Sgt PSN

Yeah, I didn't want to give away any of the real shtein because it would kind of spoil it.  That's the beauty of the show though...there are actual spoiler alerts for the rewatch.

Like I said, I've watched it 3 times and I always pick up a bunch of shtein that I didn't catch before.  I know you've watched it more than I have so there are probably things that you've seen and if you posted them here it would totally ruin it for me.

yeah I feel another watch coming on.

Tomahawk

I still haven't seen the last two or three episodes because my racist bitch wouldn't quit barking at the tv

Zanshin

Started it up again last night on HBO Go. They did a great job on the remastering.

MDS

in david simon's new show:
frank sobatka
slim
levy
cheese
d'angelo
chris
kima's girl
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

this is so stupid....for anyone that is a huge fan of the wire most or all of those people will always be their character in the wire....unless hes doing the wire redux why would you have all them in a show together

levy has been in enough things....so has chris bauer and even d'angelo

slim and cheese i get. kima's girl is a non factor.

I saw D playing a cop in the trailer too. Role reversal.

i dont care if chris bauer (or deangelo) has been in a 1000 things since...he is frank sobotka period....and if hes been in a thousand 999 of them no one could name off the top of their head

its not like any of them are tom cruise where they have done a million huge movies where one doesnt stand out far above the rest and you could reel off so many good ones

the only one that doesnt fit is cheese and thats because he will always be method man in wu tang which is why originally casting him in the wire was a big mistake

Probably worth noting that not everyone eats and breathes The Wire, and it'll be fine.
