getting the rounds correct after the first is really tough...hell even the first isnt always easy....look at justice last year

later on tho is a total crapshoot....there are literally players that could go in the 4th round or be undrafted

Banking on Will-iam JamesPeterson this year and beyond angers me, but the 1st round is probably too early to draft a guy that won't break any higher than 3rd on the depth chart until at least 2011 or something... so CB is a questionable call.

I want them to draft a safety, but that would mean they'd actually have to let him push Considine but learn both positions.  Defensive line is always good to build if there's a value pick available, but only if the kid can actually play and produce on 1st through 3rd downs as a rookie.  They don't have the luxury to blow the pick on a kid that won't play meaningful time this year.

Linebacker is the one position that I feel fits the Eagles' MO.  Trotter's declined, and Spikes only has 2 years on his deal.  Jones sucks, but they're keeping him around.  Gaither's good, but he might level off.  Gocong and McCoy could start or not be on the team at all, depending on what they are or aren't able to do.  If they draft a guy, they could play him in spots but also plan to use him for the future.  That said, with Willis jumping up draft boards... who's worth it at #26?

I think they'll grab a safety in round 1... or trade down/out.

PhillyPhreak54

Lawrence Timmons at 26 would be worth it.

I think Dhani is going to get cut.

Yes, but he won't be there.

That would be nice.

PhillyPhreak54

What would be even nicer is if some stupid GM out there would take him in a trade tomorrow or Sunday.

I think my love for Patrick Willis surpasses that of Beermonkey's man-love for Jevon Kearse a couple years ago.

PoopyfaceMcGee

Beermonkey was pretty clear that he would allow Jevon to violate his rectum, so it's disturbing to even begin to ponder what you'd allow Willis to do to you.

PhillyPhreak54

Hmmm, I missed the cornhole violation part. If thats the case, I'm out. Or I'd subcontract Chuggie to take it for me.

PhillyandBCEagles

I'm hoping Dhani gets cut.  Not just from the team, but I also hope someone stabs him.

does anyone really think the eagles are gonna take a day one running back...i personally would be shocked...but all you hear is tony hunt this brian leonard that in the second round

imo the fact that they brought buck back eliminiates any chance for a rb tomorrow.....you dont need to take a rb for the future as its the one position that can step right in from the jump and play...and i dont think they will use a 2nd or 3rd simply to come in and challenge buck for a back up job

What'd Buck get? A 2yr deal? And Spads has continually said he doesn't trust him to stay healthy - so that means neither do the Eagles. He even has mentioned a "big back" in recent posts. I could see one going in the 3rd. Mike Bush or Tony Hunt - either one is cool w/ me.

QuoteDraft guru Kiper isn't buying Meriweather hype
By BOB GROTZ, bgrotz@comcast.net
04/26/2007

PHILADELPHIA - Safety Reggie Nelson, running back Brian Leonard or a wide receiver, not conflict ridden safety Brandon Meriweather, is the Eagles' pick if they hang in at No. 26 according to ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper.

Speculation has swirled about the Eagles' intentions in the first round of the two-day NFL Draft that begins at noon Saturday.

Several scouts and various sources expect the Birds to draft a defensive player, most likely a defensive back. It's likely that at least two of the five players the Eagles anticipate being on the board after the first 25 picks are safeties.

Kiper, however, vehemently disagrees that Meriweather will be the guy, which would be pleasing to gun control proponents considering the University of Miami's recent past.

Meriweather pulled a pistol out of his pants last July and squeezed off three rounds in the direction of an assailant who shot a teammate in the buttocks outside their off-campus apartment. Authorities ruled that he acted in self defense with a registered gun.

A few months later Meriweather played a leading role in an on-field brawl with Florida International, one featuring kicking.

Eagles general manager Tom Heckert says the team has spoken with draftable players with character issues. Heckert later said he didn't think Meriweather was a bad guy.

"Some of these guys have issues where they've never really been arrested or charged or convicted or anything like that," Heckert said. "So I think you have to weigh each one of them and just find out as much as you can because from a legal standpoint there's nothing on them. The bottom line is we talk to the kid and come out of the room with, 'we like this guy or we don't.'"

The way Kiper sees it, character is only part of the equation for Meriweather (5-101/2, 192), who isn't a big safety and for all of his alleged coverage skills managed just one interception in a dozen games last year.

"He's more of a second-round pick," Kiper said Wednesday on a conference call. "I don't think he's played well enough to be a first-round pick. You'll take a chance in the second or the third round, not in the first. Teams will roll the dice a little bit more there than in the first round."

In that vein Kiper thinks the Eagles - if they haven't drafted a big back like Leonard of Rutgers - could take a chance in the third round on Michael Bush (6-2, 251) of the Louisville, still not all the way back from foot surgery that left him with a titanium plate. When healthy Bush is a load and probably a first-round pick in a draft where Adrian Peterson of Oklahoma is the only franchise type back. But Bush has had injury problems throughout his career.

"You're almost drafting him more for 2008 than 2007," Kiper said.

The wide receivers Kiper has coming off the board in the first round are Calvin Johnson of Georgia Tech, Ted Ginn Jr. of Ohio State, Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith of USC, Robert Meachem of Tennessee and Dwayne Bowe of LSU.

While Johnson will be the first or second pick in the draft, it's possible a chunk of the remaining receivers will be available.

Though Bowe might be the most polished, with 41 touchdown receptions in three seasons, Jarrett (6-4, 215) could make the biggest impact as a rookie.

Ginn, still not all the way back from a foot injury, is the fastest receiver hopeful when healthy and also returns kicks.

Kiper has the Eagles grabbing Nelson, an athletic, Ed Reed-coverage type safety out of Florida poo-poohed for his lack of tenacity near the line of scrimmage going to the Eagles at 26.

That's slightly ahead of cornerback Chris Houston of Arkansas, a physical coverage player, Michael Griffin of Texas, a physical if not over-aggressive safety with cornerback skills, Bowe and Smith.

Then there is Leonard, a powerful runner, willing blocker and sure-handed receiver who at 224 pounds ran a sizzling 4.52 in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine and bench pressed 225 pounds 28 times.

There isn't much Leonard can't do.

"I think he's going to be combination back," Heckert said. "He's a guy that will do whatever you want him to do. I think he's a big halfback. The guy played fullback. He's going to be a good special teams player. He can catch the ball. He's kind of a jack of all trades guy."

Depending on what happens in the first round, Leonard could be on the Eagles' radar.

"They could take a guy like Brian Leonard very easily," Kiper said.

If Kiper is right, so could Meriweather, Griffin and Nelson, all fast enough, versatile enough and flat-out talented enough to help the Eagles in the secondary and on special teams.

"You draft the best player at a position of need, and normally there are four or five need areas," Kiper said. "But you also can still draft the best player because you're getting the best player at a variety of positions which means that's a highly rated guy and you're not dipping down lower than you should.

"You might skip a guy who you just flat-out can't draft that you have a high grade on but your board can be set to take care of that. Ratings are subjective and within the framework of the organization critical to how that team operates. But you're drafting the best available player at a position of need in the NFL right now."

theyve attempted to go into the season with buck as their back up in 2004 2005 2006.....three years...and now this year after buck actually played a whole season spads is so concered with his health that he thinks they are gonna take a back??

i call bullshtein

they might take one but bucks health being the reason given by the team would be ridiculously disengenious
