FYI...

The team's leadoff hitter has 125% more homeruns than the cleanup hitter.
The team's leadoff hitter has a 105 point batting average advantage over the cleanup hitter.
The team's leadoff hitter has 18 extra base hits. The cleanup hitter has 8.

You pay an awful lot of attention to a sport and team you profess to hate.

And... ROLLINS FOR MVP!

PhillyPhreak54

Not only that but rjs liked to point out how Rollins was not a good leadoff hitter too.

Moyer threw well and then that goddamn Alfonzo got him. Now Sixto let the floodgates open.

Bums.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Dang it, when I went to be the Phils were up 2-0.

Glad I didn't see the end of that travesty.

Most of my point was that Howard sucks, but the other part of my point is that Rollins shouldn't be batting leadoff since he thinks he's a homerun hitter and strikes out way too much. But god forbid a coach change the lineup or the role of a player over the course of his tenure. ROLLINS WAS A LEADOFF HITTER WHEN HE CAME INTO THE LEAGUE! HE HAS TO STAY THERE FOREVER! YAY!
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

ice grillin you

is rollins the ideal leadoff guy....NO

is he more than adequate as a lead off guy....YES

whether rollins should or shouldnt lead off is about 107 on the list of issues with this team

I've said often that the best spots for Rollins would be the #2 or the #6 holes.  However, strikeouts aren't the main reasons:  Rollins has struck out one less time over the last three seasons than Johnny Damon (225 to 224), though he leads this season 20-13.  Actually, the main thing with Rollins is that he doesn't walk enough, so his on base percentage is usually lower than most leadoff hitters.  Rollins can drive the ball, and would be ideal for one of the secondary RBI slots.  Problem is that Cholly wants him in the leadoff spot because he is also the team's best basestealer.  Victorino is fast but seems to be an idiot on the basepaths.

One thing that I have noticed about Rollins:  For a guy that is as fast as him, I have never seen a speedster ground into so many double plays.

It's amazing that a guy like Victorino has never honed his base-stealing potential.  The guy is flat-out blazing fast, yet you're right, he runs like a retard.

That pretty much sums up the Phillies... all the talent in the world but a substantial lack of knowledge of how to harness it.

I guess that happens when your instructors in the minor leagues suck gigantic amounts of ass.

Some of that (not all, but some) may be due to the fact that when he's at bat, you're typically looking at the 7-9 hitters being on base.  Not a lot of speed there when it comes to getting from first to 2nd and being able to effectively take out the 2nd basemen on the the throw to first.

And maybe one of you dorks might actually pay attention to something like this, but how often does Cholly have them execute a hit and run if there are runner(s) on base with Rollins at the plate?

PhillyPhreak54

Sarge has a point about the guys being OB ahead of him the 7-8-9's all have lead in their asses. Hell, everyone on that team except Rollins, Utley, Victorino and Rowand (and Bourn when hes in there) are slow as shtein.

Speaking of which, what will it take to get a 3B coach who knows what the farg hes doing? Bill Dancy - crap. This new guy Steve Smith, even crappier. Great job sending Howard last night.

And onto Howard - he's hitting a robust .191 now. Beyoootiful.

As for Rollins; he's hitting .313 and his OBP is at .371 (30 points ahead of his career best so far) and his OPS is over a thousand. He puts the ball into play and gets hits. Get on base; thats the objective regardless of how he does it.
