I thought Vin Scully was gonna have an accident after Howard hit his second dinger.  He was actually giggling.

I just can't figure this team.  They absolutely get mauled two nights in a row and then come out and destroy the ball and get good pitching to boot.

Schizophrenic.

thats what 500 teams do...whats there to get

How many .500 teams have you seen get 26 hits in one night?  How many .500 teams have you seen lead the league in hitting?

If they had ANY semblance of a pitching staff this team would be World Series contenders.   What a shame.

PS: LOL @ Mo.

AIDS.   :-D

Okay, how many teams that don't play at a 5,280 foot elevation?

Durbin surprised me somewhat. Like I said earlier he threw decent in COL...if he can get his control consistent then maybe they have something.

Why does Clay Condrey still have a job in MLB?

Those dudes were crushing the ball last night. But all that means is today they'll be held to 0-2 runs and leave 14 on base. That is their MO.

By the way - Flash has been pitching with a torn labrum since 2005ish. They signed him despite that.

But yet they don't sign Joe Borowski.

This team's front office is a collection of douchebags.

SunMo

you can't butcher the closer situation any more than they have, starting with not signing Billy Wagner to a 3 year deal when they had the chance, then they didn't trade him, then they let him go and the rest is history

Well hopefully Myers can solidify that role for a long time because he is cut out to be a closer. Even though I was totally against that move, I now like it.

But you are right - they farged up bad on that one.

Rome

Myers has already injured himself once in the closer's role.  To assume he'll have success there is a stretch, Jay.  I don't think he has the mental makeup for it, personally.  I hope he does because the Phillies have no one in the minors who's close and free agent closers, at least ones with any sort of stuff at all, are looking to get Wagner money and we know the Phillies aren't paying anyone close to that.  It's sad, really.

the launching pad that is the bank cancels out any elevation advantage

also i believe the yankees lead the ML in offense this year

i totally agree on myers as far as the closer...not only is he more valuable at starter i think the jury is still way out on whether he can be a closer...i mean he had some success for one month at the job and all of sudden hes cut out for it?...

i dont see the mental makeup or the overwhelming stuff that would scream im a closer...he has a super 12-6 when its on but has there ever been a closer that had a curveball as his out pitch...not saying there isnt but i cant think of any...htey are few and far between...closers have had the mean hook but its almost always backed up by a dominant mid to high 90's fastball which myers doesnt have...

The thing with Myers that concerns me most is the inevitable meltdown inning he goes through.  He can be flat-out dominating one inning and then completely shelled the next.  He would escape the innings most nights but on some occasions he would just get destroyed.  A closer has to be able to take the ball and protect tight leads night after night.  I just don't see Myers being capable of doing that.  Maybe the Phillies do, and I hope they're right.  I just don't see it.

he needs a blow up doll he can punch in the face in the clubhouse.

I guess the reason I think he is cut out for it is because when he is a starter he obviously pitches more innings. And if he gets into trouble in the 2nd sometimes it affects him the whole game. Like he isn't able to shake it off. But in the closers role its a shorter exposure. Granted he will have to go 2-3 nights in a row, but I still believe that he has the make-up to be a closer. Either way I am still the number 1 Myers fan-boy.

Plus he hit Drew Henson's pansy ass with a pitch when he was attempting to play for the Yanks and Drew charged him. I like that.

Anyways...they need for him to be good. Because if he fails I have ZERO faith in the lobotomized "brain" trust of Gillick, Amaro, and Arbuckle to find another closer.
