There were rumbles on ESPN earlier today that Joe Torre's job is "in jeopardy."

Breaking News:

ex-Phillies and current St. Louis Cardinal pitcher Josh Hancock killed in a car accident last night in STL.

SunMo

Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock was killed in a car accident last night, he was 29.

He was on the Phillies for a while.  I can't remember who they traded for him though.

Right - because after winning four world series rings he somehow forgot how to manage a baseball team.

If he does get canned Gillick better have a limo waiting for him outside of Yankee Stadium with a blank contract inside.

They got him from the Red Sox for Jeremy Giambi before the 2003 season, and traded him with Anderson Machado in 2004 to the Reds for Todd Jones.

Well, there are no more than 4 or 5 guys on the Phils I'd trade for him now.

Word from Buster Olney is that he might be gone today if the Red Sox had swept.

Sounds like Steinbrenner's off his rocker again.  Good for non-Yankee fans.  :yay

No word on cause yet, as the investigation is pending.  A couple things have been "leaked".  He hit the back ot a tow truck, and the tow truck driver said he saw the vehicle approaching, was concerned, and hit the horn trying to alert the driver.  Hancock reportedly turned down an offer for a cab at a local restaurant earlier that night.  Also, rumors are out there that this was a decapitation.

By the way, in case you can't tell, that's an Explorer.

I would almost bet on it being a decap.

If he hit a rollback tow truck that deck sticks out and is the right height so if someone rear ends the truck the hood area of the vehicle goes under the deck and the edge of the deck goes through the persons seat and them if they are sitting there.

SunMo

when i heard he hit a parked tow truck, i immediately thought he was drunk.  i am usually right.

Even when driving behind one of those long bed tow trucks, you can tell if you slam into one of those, your head will be pretty much off your neck in an instant. I tend to give them plenty of space in front of me.

St. Louis news story on Hancock

The amusing part is that in the still photos they show, one of them is actually Rolen and not Hancock.
