I'm sticking with my jailbroken iOS 5.1, TYVM

And this is one of the few things about Apple that kind of pisses me off.....they more or less force the latest version of their iOS on you.  Granted, you don't have to install it, but once you do there is no turning back to an earlier version.  I've still got my 1st gen iPad and I haven't done an iOS update on it in over a year.  Luckily, I didn't update the iOS at the same time I did with my old iPhone and once I started seeing the problems with my phone battery, I just decided to stop updating my iPad to avoid the same fate.

SD, there are a few things you can do though to keep your battery from wearing down so quickly:

Turn location services off.

Turn WIFI off when you're not using it (or at least when you're not connected to a WIFI network).

Turn off push notifications for any app that you don't really need/want to receive instant notifications from.

Close all of your apps.  (Double tap the home button and you'll see all off the apps that you've got open.  Touch one of them and hold it until you get a - in the corner of them.  Then tap the - and close them all.  Do this once or twice a day.)

Switch to airplane mode (or just turn the phone off) if you spend a significant part of the day anywhere that you don't receive a signal.  I kept mine on airplane mode at work because I didn't get a signal once I hit the parking lot.  If your phone is searching for signal for more than 10-15 minutes, that will drain the battery real quick.

Lock your phone when you're done using it instead of waiting for it to autolock after 1 - 5 minutes.

Also, let the battery get down to 10% or below and run a full charge, twice in a row. In general, the less you start charging with over 20% or finish charging with under 100%, the better.

Apple also "suggests" running the battery down to nothing and then charging to 100% once a month.

That's kind of exactly what I just said, only...

1. "Nothing" is stupid, as bad things can happen when you let the battery straight-up die.
2. Once a month isn't enough.
3. You're ugly.

Freddie's 3 points were also suggested by Apple.

I just got the new iPad, and because I don't know any better, I updated to iOS6...I'm so new to this shtein that I don't know the difference, but hearing enough people bitch makes me feel like I just sandusky'd my iPad. Screw the internet.

I already did all of those, the only things running are phone, messages, music. I'm gonna try to run my battery down to nothing then recharge it and see if that works. I read on another forum that I'm not alone with the battery problem.

Can't say I disagree with any of this.

Yeah, the problem isn't going to be specific to just you (your phone), but basically anyone with an iPhone 4 (or 4s) who did the iOS update.  Apple will "fix" it with their next update and it will improve your battery a little but don't be surprised if your phone kicks the bucket sooner than you'd like.

I haven't DL'd the iO6 update yet but battery life on these phones have always sucked. Whether it was with my 3gs or the 4 I have now, even with closing all apps and turning off wifi and all those "tricks" to saving battery life - it still drains fairly quick.

Try using your computer for porn instead.

I'll be that guy and say that iOS6 really didn't make any mentionable difference on my 3GS. That said, I'm now sporting the iphone 5, so my 3GS will either get sold or it will become a wifi-only device (I have a hotspot to use with my laptop and/or ipad on the road).

I was in NYC today, and the lines for the iPhone were absolutely laughable. I mean, people were just standing there for hours. I seriously don't understand the obsession that would make people throw away a Saturday like that. Is it the need to be one of the first to get one? So weird to me.

PhillyPhreak54

Agreed.

Wait a couple weeks or at least until whatever bugs are fixed from the initial models, because there are usually some.

Guy at work was planning on going and waiting and I asked him why and he had no answer.

Susquehanna Birder

I didn't have to wait anywhere. Logged into my wireless account the morning the preorders started (my normal morning - didn't get up for it), put in upgrade requests for me and my son, and they both arrived at the house on Friday.

I have no idea why anybody would camp out for this.
