What's the cheapest iPad model with Wifi go for? I saw a few for $499. I'm putting it out there I'm interested in getting one so maybe some of my family will get the hint, put their Xmas present list together and get me one. I'm not holding my breath though.

Cheapest one is 16 gig wfi for $499.  32 gig wifi for $599 and 64 gig wifi for $699.  For the 3G versions I think you can basically add $100 to the cost of each one.  Doesn't matter where you look (Best Buy, Apple Store, etc)....they're all the same price...unless you opt for a refurbished model, but I've only seen them available online and not at a low enough price for me to take a chance on it. 

I went with the 64 gb because I want to have plenty of space for movies and music while I'm traveling.

I have a touch screen phone, with the ipad is there any annoyance having to constantly wipe the smudges off the screen or typing on the touch keyboard?

The only time the smudges and streaks are really noticeable is when it's in standby mode or powered off and you've got a black screen.  But once you turn it on, you really don't notice greasy finger trails that much.  I wipe my iphone down once a day and do the same with the ipad.  Takes about 5 seconds, not a big deal. 

Also, Samsung is getting ready to release it's version of the iPad for Droid.  It's a little smaller (7" screen vs 9.7 for iPad) but it can be used as a phone and has dual camera as well (although the camera is like 3 megapixel at best).  So if you hate Apple products, people who buy Apple products or if you're a Verizon/Droid user, you may want to hold off for a couple weeks until it  gets released, which I think is supposed to be before xmas.

i have an ipad. and i use it pretty much every day... for school, work, and just goofing off. 

I would get the 3g version. There's no contract and you can turn it on on months you'll need it.
