Ive dropped my iphone into snow multiple times, had it drop into the sink, drop it onto concrete on an almost daily basis, and the screen is covered in chicken wing greese and I have had zero problems.

Thats not true my phone crashed two times.  It took almost 3 minutes for itunes to restore it.  that was a pain in the ass.

Its all personal experience with these things.

The 3gs has a better camera and gps too.  i just dont care enough to buy it.

the mrs has an iphone and loves it more than she loves me.  i can't blame her, obviously, because i'm a douchebag.

i still have the motorola razr and it suits me just fine.  i do get a monthly reminder that i'm eligible for the upgrade but why bother?

gps is a pain in the ass and inaccurate.
the camera has no flash and is only 3megs.
if you put more then 4 pages of apps on it it'll start to bog it down.
wash your hands.
repeat.
clean screen.
wash hands.
don't touch phone.

seriously, its a pain in the ass. i thought it was cool at first but really i'm just afraid of breaking it, or scratching it.  its fun for like a month.  maybe you like it more.. but i really just think its a bunch of hype.  it has an ipod on it.. so thats cool.. but anything else is stuff any other phone can do.  oh, and get a charger cuz your battery lasts like 10 minutes.. unless you turn off 3g, location services, wifi search.. basically any of the features that make it the "iphone".  the app's leave a lot to be desired unless you want to start forking over some cash. thats probably my biggest gripe.  if i had any time i would jailbreak it and see what it could really do.  apple really has the handcuffs on it.

For me, the GPS works in a pinch. Yeah, it makes some mistakes, but if I really want accurate GPS for traveling, I'd get a dedicated unit. And the camera is surprisingly good for a phone.

I have one of those thin plastic sheets on my screen, and all it takes is a little breath and a wipe on the shirt. Seriously...where have your hands been?

No battery problems for me. I've had mine over a year, and it still works like a champ. Of course, I don't keep the wifi on if I'm not looking to use wifi. Same for bluetooth. If I'm not running a battery drain app like Pandora, I easily go two days on a charge.

Could it be better? Sure. Is it miles away from most other phones on the market? I think so.

the only good thing i have to say about my crackberry was that the camera was pretty damn good.  but i don't take many pictures with my phone so it's really kind of irrelevant to me.

when i bought the phone, i also got a hard plastic shell for the phone that also has a screen protector and then a rubber skin to go around that.  i could drop it from a 2nd story window and not damage the phone.  obviously with it being new, the battery shouldn't be a problem.  the biggest thing with cell phone and laptop batteries is that you really need to let them drain all the way down before recharging.  if you have a habit of keeping them plugged in all the time, that will actually limit the length the phone holds a charge.

gps is not something i need either.  i have one in my car.

i'd also imagine that the number of apps you have doesn't affect things as much as the size of the apps.  i've already downloaded about 40 free apps, most under 2 or 3 mb each and haven't had a problem.  i've also got about 1000 songs on my phone too.

opera making a push to get their browser available for iphone

QuoteThe company behind the Web browser Opera is weeks away from submitting it to Apple's iPhone store for approval, a spokesman said Friday.

The result, according to the Norwegian company, would be a browser up to six times faster than the iPhone's default Web tool, Safari.

i've seen a few here talk about opera and give it rave reviews.  i've also seen positive reviews elsewhere too.  when i had my crackberry, i downloaded the opera app but it never worked properly.  the pages were just a jumbled mess.  i deleted it and tried reinstalling several times with the same results each time and eventually just gave up.

i'm also extremely happy with the safari browser.  even if i'm on edge or not getting great signal strength, i still get relatively fast page downloads.  and if i'm on a wi-fi connection i swear that thing goes almost as fast as my laptop.  but if opera gets approved (which i don't think it will) then i'll probably give it a shot and see if i have better luck with it.

the "newness" of it is starting to wear off now that i've had it for about 3 weeks but i'm still really enjoying it.  there's a few minor things about it that i don't care for but nothing worth really worth bitching about.  overall, it's a great piece of technology that pretty much does everything it advertises and it's got a pretty user friendly interface so that idiots like me can operate it with ease.

My old phone was a Motorola Moto Q, and it came with the Opera browser. Terrible POS. Actually, the IE browser wasn't much better on that phone. I'm much, much happier to have Safari on my iphone.

ipad came out today and i've been doing a lot of research on them over the last couple of days and think i might get one.  my original plan was to get rid of windoze computers completely anyway and go with macs.  mac desktop for the office and then a macbook for both myself and my g/f.  but that's farging expensive.....probably in the area of 3grand when it's all said and done.  and thinking about it, all either of us really use our laptops for is so we can sit in the living room and get on the web or for travel.

so we really don't need a "computer" but something more along the lines of a netbook, which the ipad basically seems to be.  and for the price of 1 macbook we can each get an ipad.  so i guess i'll just wait a month or 2 until all the buzz wears off and people have had a chance to submit user reviews for it.  but from what i've seen so far, the thing is pretty bad ass.

if u have a laptop and and iphone. there is no need for the ipad, unless you have the money to burn.

our laptops are windows and we're getting rid of them when we switch to mac but will go with ipads in place of macbooks.

idiot teenager buys ipad so he can be the first person to smash it to pieces.

yeah, 19yrs old, still in high school, still living at home and makes his money shovelling snow.  i have a feeling this isn't the last we'll hear of him doing something stupid.

initial user reviews indicate that there's a problem with the ipad's wi-fi capability, which is a bit surprising considering that it's basically the same technology that's going into the iphone and ipod touch.

QuoteApple sold more than 300,000 iPads on the tablet computer's first day in stores, the company said yesterday, but reports claimed that some users had problems connecting to wi-fi networks.

New owners posted comments on Apple forums saying that their iPad had little or no wi-fi signal, where other devices worked fine.

The initial version of the touchscreen tablet computer connects to the internet only via wi-fi. Commentators have speculated that the problem could be a weak wi-fi antenna, located behind the logo on the back of the iPad.

why would you buy the first release of any tech product?

let the morons be the lab rats and get one two or three versions down the road.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Sgt PSN

i dunno.  some people are just completely hung up on being able to say "i got one firstest!"  i'm excited about getting one, but there's no way i'm shelling out that kind of cash just yet.  i'll probably get one around the end of summer.

and the thing that really sucks with the wi-fi problem is that it appears to be hardware instead of software, so this isn't something that can be fixed with a software update.  the main complaints seem to be with the antenna.  not sure how apple plans on addressing that.  so far though, their tech support website is offering nothing by way of useful info.  instead, they're just telling people to do stupid shtein like move closer to the router or try purchasing an apple router.

it's actually kind of disappointing the way that they are handling/responding to people's complaints.

reese125

how the hell do you have a company like that that does months on end of testing on a new released product, and have problems with the single most important part of the product? makes no sense.

charlie

Eh, a bad batch of parts is pretty much all it is. My question is why wouldn't these people just go and return it and get one that works properly?

PoopyfaceMcGee

They probably engineered it this way on purpose so that they can later offer a pricey auxiliary antenna.
