No one ever guaranteed anyone a middle class lifestyle, clothes on their back or food on their table. PURSUIT of happiness is the correct terminology. And MDS I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, but $50,000,000 is not pennies.

yea im crying over here for the wall street exec who might have to pay a little bit more than the single mother from around the way that works 38 hours a week at target

the wealthiest class was paying upwards of 75% in taxes post WWII. country seemed to be doing okay back then. now obama wants to raise it a couple of points and everyone freaks out.

and of course the defense is i worked hard for my money why does the govt take it all? well for every person that actually deserves their ridiculously enormous salary, there are 10 that walked into it because of who their father is. and im sure were all crying tears over trust funds babies' bank accounts.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

so you're saying money=happiness, and everyone should pursue whatever job makes them the most money. so goodbye teachers, cops, bartenders, firefighers, butchers, janitoral workers, some construction workers, etc etc etc etc etc

No thank you. I don't want a country full of people motivated by more money. I want a country of people motivated by doing what makes them happy, even if that is busting their ass doing the jobs that the rich would be unwilling to do.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

But Munson you're just plain wrong... the problem with some of those professions is that in certain parts of the country... they make astronomical amounts of money, and in turn, are awarded astronomical pensions on the taxpayer's dime.

Lurking wierdo = bowzer?

Yeah, not that there really wasn't any doubt before, but you definitely used to post here under another name.

They make more money based on cost of living, maybe...but any teacher starting out, no matter where they live, will be in the 25-35K range for the first few years. Their pay increases after that are based on acquiring a masters degree and, especially in today's NCLB climate, the results on standardized state tests.

Are you saying they don't deserve increase pay over the years and good pensions? ESPECIALLY jobs like teachers and cops?

My girlfriends old man was an New York City cop for 30 years and he gets a pension of like 70K a year or something like that. You really think that's too much for a guy that put his life on the line for 30 years, and was on site during 9/11? (And was in fact forced into retirement because of injuries and illness acquired at ground zero?) I don't. Deserves every penny. And it's not like he sits on his ass either, he does some PI work on the side for the DA.

Teachers take care of your snotty little children year after year after year...for all the complaints about kids on here, imagine having to care, educate, and control 25 of them 180 days a year for 30+ years. Of course they deserve to be making 90K by the time they're 63. That's if you're lucky....the average salaray for a teacher in DE is about 49K...in New York, it's 60K or so...yeah, real "astronomical" numbers there.

PS-Don't we have a certified teacher on here? Geo's a teacher, right?

My sister started out at about 50k.. and that was like 20 years ago.... she's up to well over 6 figures...   I don't know where you are getting these stats....

MY friend who just started out this year is making 55 after 2 years...

And I'm not saying big city cops/firefighters... I'm talking about those random NJ counties where firefighters make over 6 figures.. get to retire with 20 years of service and are then on the book for those pensions from like age 50 to death.

Yeah, I think Geo is a teacher.  But he hasn't posted since June......probably because he's a teacher and too poor to afford the internets.

http://teacherportal.com/teacher-salaries-by-state
http://dcjobsource.com/teachersalaries.html

etc and so on. All give different numbers to the ones place but all are generally in the same range by state.

And I find it funny that you are complaining about cops and firefighters pensions, people who put their lives on the line doing jobs a lot of us aren't willing or capable of doing...when there are wall street execs giving themselves million dollar bonus's of money they didn't earn nearly as much as a cop or firefighter did. What do YOU think is the bigger waste of money?

I'm not saying it's not something that needs a little bit of reform....but to suggest all cops are able to acquire that high of a pension (they're not), or even a majority of them are able to (they're not), is wrong. And kudos to them for getting a good pension, because god knows their salaries aren't that great to begin with considering the job they are asked to do.

Yes.. because those firefighters in bumblefarg suburb New Jersey are making 6 figures a year for 35 years of retirement after only 20 years of service.  I hear there's a lot of dangerous high rise, five alarm fires in those areas.  Give me a break.

Taxes pay for CEO's salaries nowadays?

Munson

I'm much happier with my taxes paying for the pension of a cop or firefigher than I am with a wall street exec sitting on piles of money (piles much MUCH bigger than any cop or firefighter will ever have) and giving himself bonuses while not creating new jobs.

Like I said, I'm not saying the system doesn't need tweaking....but 20 years of service as a fireman >>>>>>>>>>> a life time as a CEO of some company. They deserve every penny they get, IMO.
