am i the only one who finds it offensive when she dips down to her "folksy" accent and phrases? or that when she compares herself to the average American.

i do not want a average American as the possible president. the average American is utterly retarded.

i watched some of the post debate news channel coverage and everyone keeps claiming it works well for her to use terms like "dogarnit", "by golly", or "im going to answer in my own way".

how does that inspire confidence? idiots all these ppl.

because thats how she became mayor of her town, and it worked for the 12 Palin voters. ....but when youre running for one of most powerful jobs in the US...knock it off already. Nobody relevant will take that accent seriously

I would have to imagine there are alot more perceptive minds out there to fall for that apple pie bullshtein

Biden shredded McCain all night. That was fun to watch.

my two favorite moments:

1. when biden mentions his family history/story about losing his wife and kids. it was obvious Palin didnt know about it and she led him into it thinking she got him on sort of family angle. Biden handled it well told his history and even almost chocked up when talking about losing his kids.

2. when biden tore into the "maverick". it was like he got tired of her mentioning in every answer so he was like holdup biatch let me tell you a little bit.
Marge: I have someone who can help you!
Homer: Is it BATMAN!!??
Marge: No hes a scientist
Homer: Batman is a scientist.
Marge: Its not BATMAN!

I didn't think Palin was awful, but she didn't bring anything new to the table. She's more like a cheerleader than anything. She failed to give a relevant answer to anything.

Biden was amazing.  When he ended the medical coverage rant on McCain's plan and ended with "now that's a bridge to nowhere" I literally lol'd.

QuoteLet the record reflect that Barack Obama made the approach to John McCain tonight.

As the two shared the Senate floor tonight for the first time since they won their party nominations, Obama stood chatting with Democrats on his side of the aisle, and McCain stood on the Republican side of the aisle.

So Obama crossed over into enemy territory.

He walked over to where McCain was chatting with Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida and Independent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut. And he stretched out his arm and offered his hand to McCain.

McCain shook it, but with a "go away" look that no one could miss. He tried his best not to even look at Obama.

Finally, with a tight smile, McCain managed a greeting: "Good to see you."

Obama got the message. He shook hands with Martinez and Lieberman — both of whom greeted him more warmly — and quickly beat a retreat back to the Democratic side.

As much as I enoyed the debate I'm not sure I could have stood listening to another ten minutes of Palin's fake Midwestern accent (or whatever you'd prefer to call it). That really got annoying after a while.

I was impressed by Biden. I'd say he was close to 100% perfect. I'd be proud to have him as VP or President.

I wasn't surprised to see Palin not answering questions by resorting to saying the same things over and over again. I was surprised, though, to see her not even address the questions at all for a time or two.

Palin did everything in her power to make sure the election will go on so that we can continue to witness the McCain/Palin ticket spiral slowly further down the toilet. Good fun.

Palin said nothing of substance, didn't answer the questions and the only time she held her own was to question Biden's loyalty to Obama. At no point did she display any chops when it came to issues or defending/explaining the McCain/Palin agenda.

She didn't make a fool of herself, so she'll get points for that, but Biden ate her for lunch. And not in the sexy way.

VIGY, you need to watch CNN son.  That way you can see the reaction of middle America in real time and know that it isn't just your partisan gut reaction.

Biden thrashed Palin last night.  As mentioned, not Katie Couric bad, but bad.  Last night the graph showed the reactions of Men vs Women.  Guess who the women absolutely loved?  Biden.  Guess what the reaction was when Palin went off topic and got all folksy?  Negative.

One could argue that it was close, that she didn't do anything to hurt McCain's chances.  Concede that point, and it still was a huge loss for McCain/Palin:

- Obama/Biden has the biggest lead in the national polls since the campaign started
- Obama/Biden is ahead of the MOE in states worth 250 EV
- They lead by a slight margin in FL, OH, CO and VA.
(all polls averaged by pollster.com)

Plain didn't need to "stay close", she needed a game changer.  She proved that she just isn't able to do that.

It sure as hell looked to me like the candidates had access to the questions beforehand, particularly Palin also.  Most of those answers were far too polished also, as compared to her interviews also.  Hard to imagine her handlers got lucky on what the questions might be also.

I found the whole debate rather disappointing also.  Palin didn't implode, and Biden didn't explode also.  Have to wait for SNL I guess, also.

i said this exact thing to my girl....not jsut access to the answers ahead of time but also possibly the order in which they were coming....palin never even had to scramble or suffle her talking point papers...it was like...

question asked
look at paper
talk into camera

and it was like this everytime

the only reason i doubt this is because if you knew they were coming couldnt you at least properly answer and address the questions?

toms shales in the wapo i thought nailed the debate right on

I think the difference is that they could assume that the questions would revolve around the main issues of the campaign.  In the rare exceptions where they (both of them) didn't have a talking point to address the question directly, they both changed the subject.  The difference was that Biden answered the question, then used his talking points to justify it (even if they weren't relevant).  Palin just strung together meaningless talking points.  Note that the moderator did not corner either candidate for not answering the question like Couric did.

Did anyone notice that when Ifill didn't directly address a question to one candidate, Biden jumped in and answered it first?  Big mistake - it covered for what might have been some blank-stare-shuffling-papers moments.  I also didn't like that when she had different questions for the candidates, she said what both questions were, allowing whoever was second to prepare a response.

Phanatic

Anyone catch her support of Cheney's redefining the role of the VP? I thought that would get a lot more play then it did in post debate stuff. It also will help them hang Bush-Cheney around McCain's neck.

Historically speaking on the VP's role Cheney's mad.

Outstanding point, Phanatic. That didn't get nearly enough attention. Cheney is farging insane and that quote is going to come back to haunt Palin.

So, I hung out by Wash U with my "I {heart} Palin" sign, wearing a "Foxy Lady" tshirt with Sarah's face on it, and even yelled that I had a six pack in the car to Sarah.  And all it got me was nothing.

It looks like the only way I'm going to farg Sarah is by voting for Obama.
