The truth is that Republican candidates say imflamatory shtein all the time, and no one says shtein about it because people expect it. The difference is that the vast majority of Republican candidates don't claim to be populists and so don't have to worry about being called to task on inflamatory rhetoric.

At IGY: Of course you understand what I'm saying, you just like to argue. Obama wants us to believe that he is a populist. That he can play nice with everyone on both sides of the aisle and get shtein done. It's been at the center of his entire campaign, I'm sure you can agree. However, if he is going to play the populist card, he needs to be more polished in his approach. He needs to be a little more aware of what he's saying and how the midwestern hicks are going to take it. He shouldn't be focussed on fighting back and playing tough with Republicans because it runs directly opposite to his entire message. On top of that, I know that Democrats have this pent up frustration with how flaccid their party has been, but a politician lacing up his gloves and getting into a fight is also exactly the opposite of what Obama has been running on. Now he's suddenly a fighter? Please.

I'm not looking for reasons to dislike Obama, I'm trying to find reasons to like him.  I'm a McCain voter as of now, but neither sends tingles of excitement down my neckspine. 

rjs said for me what I couldn't put into words last night.  Obama is a peace-maker - that's part of his platform.  Then, in a moment of inexperience, he spills over into a fighter.  I get that Kerry was a douche.  I also get that Obama doesn't want to be a douche.  But, it appears to me that he's trying to be all things to all people - which smells of pure politician.  Pure politics isn't Change - it's what we've had for decades.  I need more than a feel-good buzzword to vote for Obama.

I would kill for a presidential candidate to be as pointed and opinionated as someone like Jesse the Brain.  You might not like his politics or his thoughts, but I respect a guy that says what he thinks and says what he means, rather than pandering to his audience while sucking their collective dick.  And that's what we have now - two people ready to say anything to get voted into the white house.
