I don't think anyone is dismissing McCain as "another Bush" but rather the problem lies in that he AGREES with and will continue far too many of Bush's policies for MANY people's likings.

Only idiots would believe that McCain will be a carbon copy continuation of the Bush years. I very much wish that the Democrats would stop pushing McCain as nothing more than an extension of the last eight years because only the least intelligent people will believe it and it's going to alientate people who know better. I have no doubt that he would be a marked improvement. How could he not be? Having said that, McCain could be my father and I probably wouldn't vote for him this time around. I want change. Drastic change. For better or worse. And McCain won't provide that. So I'm gonna close my eyes and cross my fingers and vote for Obama.

Bob Barr.

i know you think bob barr is some sort of great libertarian but you should really educate yourself on his past...hes been one of the most right wing politicians in the country over the past 15 years and was an absolutely disgusting during the clinton impeachment...to get the libertarian label he has literally done a 180 on almost every position he now holds....in short hes a disgrace

You forget that I actually know this guy. I am very intimately informed of his past, political and otherwise. I forced matt and my other roommates to watch the Clinton impeachment hearings because I knew the dude conducting them. The first words the man ever said to me were "Are you a Republican?" and when I told him that I was independent (as a 19 year old) he said "Well at least you're not a Democrat." I know who he is and what he's done and I don't agree with much of his political agenda.

BUT, as I've said for months now, my biggest concern is the government's infringement's on my private life and if he is the candidate that promises the least infringement on my privacy then I am going to talk him up as an alternative, especially to people who are inclined to vote republican but don't really like the idea of voting for McCain. I would take Bob Barr's vision of the country over the current 'Republican' vision every day of the week. It isn't perfect, and he certainly hasn't been perfect, but it makes a lot more sense than most of what we're being bombarded with.

you are explaining to me why youre a libertarian which needs no defense....voting for bob barr does...how could you vote for someone so obsessed with going into another mans bedroom as a libertarian...and that doesnt even bring up his recent complete reversals on numerous issues to suit the libertarian platform

I'm not voting for him. I'm presenting him as a reasonable alternative to the Republican option. And as FF pointed out, the more people vote for him the less people will vote for McCain (probably). Either way, I agree with your problems with Barr and still think that he has something reasonable to offer to the debate. I've changed my mind on things before and don't fault others for changing their minds... unless they change their minds from something I agree with to something I disagree with. In that case I reserve the right to hate anyone and everyone on a whim.

seriously....mccain making smaller government is the most laughable thing ive ever heard

hard to say what obama will do as hes so new but he pretty much has to spend less than the republicans have over the last 8 years...not to mention he will spend the money in better areas

as for mccain not following in bushes footprints...where exactly do they differ on issues over tha last eight years...pre 2000 john mccain i would agree...but not anymore...hes run by the far right and neo cons now

Yeah, the problem is that I hate big government.  Hate. Big. Government.

The government sucks at everything it does, no matter which side of the aisle is in charge.

what country do you live in?...our government is amazing...does it waste of course but if you look at the size of our country and its budget it does a pretty phenominal job

i definitely dont have problems with people changing views on certain issues but this guy has completely flipped on numerous issues and with suspect timing...mostly hes a bad guy tho and thats why i couldnt vote for him...mccain for example has flipped like a mad man but i dont hate him like i do barr...barr is evil

I actually support the US on that one.

QuoteRegarding all the other African bloodbaths - AS IF the U.S. has actually gave a farg about these people. Or, as if even if we did there would be very much we could do about it anyhow. Hell, we can't even provide relief to those devasted in Myanamar......or New Orleans for that matter,

IF is a big word, we don't know because we weren't there by ourselves, the UN was, and failed. Is it rightthat we have not stepped in? No we probably should have, but we were not the "responsible" ones there during this time.

QuoteThere is one permament member of the UN Security Council who has repeatedly thumbed its nose at progress....

Thumbed its nose? in at the last 20 years there are only a handfull of vetos I would not agree with, mainly 2 in 87, 2 in 89, the second one in 02.

QuoteJohn Bolton and the Bush administration DON'T WANT the U.N. to be effective at anything. Hell, we haven't even wanted to pay our debts to them...

Bolton and Bush, come on how long have we owed the UN money? It's not a new trend by us or anyone else.

QuoteThis reminds me of the other Right Wing argument, that you have to watch out for "big government". This after spending the past eight years increasing the size of the government and ensuring its incompetence.

Man do I agree with you 100% on this one. I am fargin sick of that line. I was brought up in about as conservative home as you can get. I am disgusted at this president and the republican congress under my former congressman fat ass Denny Hastert. before the 06 election I was daily sending his big ass e-mails daily, and visted his office weekely (3 blocks from my old crib) to voice my disgust with his joke he called leadership. My wife got a call one day from the local republican office. They told her who they were, and she responded with, is this about the e-mails? Those fargers wanted me to support that bum. Farg you Denny and your lackies.

Give me a fargin break, the bedroom? since when is the oval office a bedroom. Get over it, the former president fargin lied to you, me and everyone else when he pointed at us on TV and said the famous line. any way you look at it is was a fargin lie. and a fargin horrible post. He went into the oval office, the white house that you and I pay for.

Again, I agree with your POLITICAL assessment of Barr. He has flipped recently on many issues and his former life as a republican included some repugnant actions. But while he has flipped on issues recently he has done it all in a consistent break from the Republican party and made his problems with the party very public. I actually have respect for that.

Your PERSONAL assessment of him is impossible to take seriously because you're basing it on politically motivated actions from about a decade ago. And again you're talking to someone who knows him a lot better than you do (which is to say, "at all"), so try to keep it in your pants.
