It isn't about 'the man'. It's about the underlying reasons for inner city slums. It isn't oppression, it's perceived opportunity. Inner cities are more populated by the poor because there are more jobs. There is more crime and drug use because there are more people. It's the same in every city in every country in the world. The poor move to the inner city to try and get access to jobs. Some succeed. others don't. It isn't a conspiracy.

why does the govt allow open air drug markets in the inner city

why does crack carry mandatory sentences that are 50 times longer than meth or coke

why is there a liquor store a fried food restaurant and a gun store on every corner in the inner city

why arent there white neighborhoods with crime and death rates thru the roof like in the inner cities

why in the most populated crime ridden areas of the country are their far less cops per person than in the more affluent areas
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

because the cost and risk of trying to stop them is one that very few politicians would actually try to get paid

because crack kills on a first dose more often than meth or coke

supply and demand

because white people are Hoydas

because cops are Hoydas

That was easy.

I'll bite

why does the govt allow open air drug markets in the inner cityThe Wire explained this in Hampsterdam

why does crack carry mandatory sentences that are 50 times longer than meth or cokeThe original idea seemed to be punish harder to curb usage, Look how old the ganja laws are.  There needs to be an update to the punishments all all drugs and more of a focus on rehab not punishment

why is there a liquor store a fried food restaurant and a gun store on every corner in the inner cityWhat do you want and IKEA?  Honestly do you ever not see the NY Fried Chicken or Liquor Store empty?  Its a supply/demand society, and there is a huge demand for chicken and beer in that demographic, someone is going to make money.  I dont know about the Gun Stores on every corner because in most inner cities its much easier to get a gun from someone they know who sells hot pieces.  If there were more gun stores, you would have more murders solved because of simple ballistics testing

why arent there white neighborhoods with crime and death rates thru the roof like in the inner citiesBecause of drugs taht people sell to their own people for profit.  Its called Greed, and instead of working your ass off to get that new pair of sneaks or beamer, its about a shortcut that happens to be murder or robbery.

why in the most populated crime ridden areas of the country are their far less cops per person than in the more affluent areasI agree wholeheartedly, but at the same time where is the funding going to come from.  Its up to the local government to put a spotlight on the problem, often its just a quick fix rather than wholescale changes

These questions are all very easily answered with a history lesson.

High crime neighborhoods have nothing to do with race. They have to do with poverty. In the late 1800s and early 1900s the inner cities on the east coast were populated largely by Irish immigrants coming to this country and looking for work. Crime rates were through the roof as was drug use. At the same time on the west coast the inner cities were populated with asian immigrants. Similarly drug use and crime were through the roof.

Later on in the middle of the century, Italian immigrants moved into the inner cities and their neighborhoods were similarly overrun with crime and drugs.

Now, the inner city is mostly populated by blacks on the east coast and hispanics on the west coast. Same problems.

It doesn't have a goddamned thing to do with the color of their skin or any government conspiracy. The government makes ridiculous drug laws (almost all of which are incredibly racist in their roots) but outside of that, this is a economic phenomenon and not a racist agenda. Crime and drug abuse have always and will always go along with poverty and poverty doesn't know or understand skin color.

If we want to argue about ways to limit poverty, that's fine, but I'm talking about education, which can and should be addressed and an easy and effective way to address the problem is by paying teachers more and giving them the opportunity to make a living that is at least comparable to salaries in the private sector.

I would also have less kids per class room. Give teachers every opportunity to reach the kids they got.

Sure. That's good. Pay the teachers first, though.

The average teachers salary is about $47,000/year. Not bad for 9 months work.

Throwing more money at prospective teachers isn't the answer.

rjs246

Meaning that going to school and getting a masters in education, a farging MASTERS, garners you less than $50,000 per year when you're done. Pathetic.

Wrong. I guarantee you that higher salaries will bring more qualified and capable candidates. There's absolutely no reasonable argument for underpaying teachers.
